Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumHey, where's Jeff?
Not to have received any emails from the campaign in the last 20 hours seems a little disappointing.
They should have some idea what their message should be at this point. Not to communicate anything seems to suggest they're not sure what their direction should be. And clearly this is the time to do it.
After a tough loss, the coach doesn't just let the team go home without saying something constructive.

(5,792 posts)I don't know what is happening. I know that Bernie looked exhausted in AZ. I think they are really talking and I am not giving up. But many on his site are defeatist damnit.

(812 posts)All this stuff is a no-brainer. You prepare a communication, at least to some degree, for any contingency.
What happened yesterday wasn't what any of us wanted. But it wasn't so far out of the realm of possibility that they wouldn't have prepared something for it.
HRH and HRM (Her Royal Media) will have a hey day with it. You need to have something ready to counter that. You can't just remain silent.

(31,420 posts)...they may be dealing with the fallout of voters denied a right to vote because of ID laws., voters turned away, etc.
There's a rally planned for Idaho on friday.

(812 posts)Like I say, the most critical time for a coach to encourage his team is right after a heartbreaking loss.
Don't say anything, and you're going to have players questioning if they even want to stay in the sport.
Just like people here wanting to give up. I don't agree with them doing that, but where's the encouragement from the campaign?

(812 posts)we win.
"Time Off" is not even really relevant. Email communication is automatic. I can be on vacation at a beach in Hawaii, and my computer is still hard at work back home trying to make sales.
Unless Bernie were to announce that the campaign is officially off, it needs to be on.
And "on" means 100% ON. There is no half way.

(14,691 posts)taking a couple days off in Sedona. Yes a brief email stating that would have been nice but I for one am not knocking them now.

(812 posts)Hence the OP. This isn't about Bernie personally, but his comm staff.
It's like if 10,000 iPad were to suddenly explode. "Thanks for calling Apple Support... Oh, sorry, we can't help you right now, as Tim Cook is on vacation in Belize."
Actually, it's not like that because what happened last night, while hugely disappointing, wasn't a complete surprise either. All they needed to prepare was essentially, "It's a tough loss, but we will keep fighting, love you all, appreciate all your hard work, won't give up on you, etc."

Re-read the OP. It's not about Bernie. It's about his campaign manager, comm director, etc.
Right now, by not doing anything, they are FAILING big time.

(113,065 posts)I think they are deferring to him, as they should. Though it does mean that they didn't have a Plan B ready to launch. Now THAT is a matter of concern. OR
. Perhaps they did and Sanders put the brake on to rethink his strategy.
I don't know, but, I trust him for what he represents - to me he's CommonSenseSanders. He'll do what he feels is right and he's usually right from what I've observed since he was a mayor.

(812 posts)When you're racing, once you're out, you're out for good. But until you're out, you're in it to reach the finish line. What you don't get to do is take several hours thinking about it.
Well, in this case, Bernie can think about it all he wants. No problem. But until he DECIDES to pull out, then they're still in the race. His team needs to be working 100% to win. Their job isn't to make decisions. It's to keep it moving forward as fast as they can, until HE decides differently.
Anyway, I did get the email from them about 90 mins ago, as did many others. But it really should have gone out last night. This kind of thing should not even come up. People feel bad enough already. They should not be waking up, wondering what's going on with the campaign. Rather, the campaign should have been doing the best it could to make everyone feel better, from as early on as possible.
Again, nothing against Bernie himself. Unless he micro-manages his staff to the point of telling them NOT to send out a message that normally should be sent out by 11pm on a big night.
Normally this kind of communication is simply done on schedule, without any need to defer to person at the top. And the email that was sent is generic enough that it looks like it could easily have been prepared days ago. So there doesn't seem to be any apparent reason for the delay.

(812 posts)Stop doing what you're supposed to be doing, especially at a critical moment, and notice all the questions it raises.
A campaign is either full on or full off. No in between.
Bernie has the right to do whatever he wants. He doesn't owe anything to anyone.
But until he announces any new decision, the old one still goes. The campaign needs to be full on. And those who get paid to remind us of that need to be doing their jobs!
