Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumClaire McCaskill's face when she was called out for attacking Bernie Sanders
Bloombergs Mark Halperin took his turn going after the Missouri senator, asking her to name three positions that are too socialist.
I am not here to be critical of my colleague Bernie Sanders, McCaskill said after she criticized the Vermont senator moments before, which Halperin pointed out.
Senator, with all due respect, you already were, Halperin said.

That is why people are drawn to him as soon as they get to know him. He is now at 22% in Iowa, in just one month.

Expect more attacks on Bernie to come from other HRC supporters.
What this is suggesting to me is that HRC is getting concerned by Bernie's popularity, his rise in the polls and the crowds he's drawing everywhere he goes. They have to do something to take Bernie down - because he represents a threat to her because he doesn't vacillate and is not wishy washy. He tells it like it is and he's been saying the same thing his whole career.
There's very little they can hold over Bernie. The 'socialist' moniker seems to be their only tool.
This is going to get interesting. I hear Bernie is closing in on HRC in New Hampshire based on CNN's new poll numbers.

he wasn't qualified for job.dismissed his wins.
now with bernie rasing in NH they are dismissing NH and saying he is only gaining because it's mostly white state. And it borders
Vermont.Iowa, and Vermont mostly white states picked obama over hillary.and with NH these mostly white states voted obama over
Mccain and Romney.
Hillary supporters dismissed bernie.calling him fringe like Kucinich.dismissing vermont.Saying bernie doesn't care about immigrants
or race. This is son of immigrants and guy who was part of civil rights movement as young man.Now he doesn't care about those
killed by Guns.Bernie gets F or D by NRA.
McCaskill today shows why I think they are worried. There Internal polls could be worse is they go after bernie and he has no chance according to what MSM wants us to think.Of course they said same thing about Obama no matter what people think of him now.

(23,156 posts)actually a very divided state. Parts are very blue, parts are very red. McCaskill is actually a very canny politician and knows how to cater to both factions.
That said, I have long been highly skeptical of her actual Democratic credentials, in that she seems extremely conservative for a Dem.
cascadiance
(19,537 posts)and therefore I think what Bernie says in his many POPULIST stances will resonate even moreso with that state than what she claims to be liberal that they don't like.
I bet quite a few Republicans want the banksters to be taken to court and to get rid of the TPA as many of us on the left do. This will resonate with Missouri, and I think will hurt McCaskill when she tries to explain her "critique" of Bernie to them.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)on the Kansas side of the border. I moved away seven years ago, so I'm not going to be completely up to date on things there. But despite having a Democratic Governor, their House and Senate are very strongly Republican. I have no idea to what extent the Tea Party has taken over, unlike Kansas where we know it's running the show.
I do hope that enough Missourians are sufficiently populist and sufficiently sick of what the Republicans have been doing to this country the past 35 years, to go to a genuine liberal/socialist/populist.
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)that typically is heavy democrat in the large cities (St, Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, etc). It's the rural part of Missouri that goes GOP. Total votes for the state usually go GOP.

(5,066 posts)you need huge turnout in large cities. That was why Obama almost won here In 2008.
Mcaskill herself was elected tos enate due to large turnout in cities.that is why she needed a weak opporent in 2012
Volaris
(10,274 posts)The only reason she won re election here is because her GOP candidate was too dumb to run to the center. He ran to the rhythm and stride of the TeaParty, turned his brain-mouth filter off for the wrong 60 seconds, and it won her the election.
her only redeeming quality in the whole process was that she almost got to hand-pick the dumbest opponent she could find, and 'backed' him in the GOP primary. She's the best kind of professional politician to the marrow of her bones, and that's not necessarily a complement.

because she was running against a total idiot.
Remember what this idiot said.
Akin was leading McCaskill in the polls until he said in August that victims of "legitimate rape" rarely get pregnant, because the female body "has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." Akin was defending his position that abortion should be illegal, even in cases of rape.

This is how Hillary's campaign will attack Bernie. Avoid specific issues, and paint Sanders as an extremist. Bernie's against trade, wants government handouts for everyone, he's not a serious candidate and the media needs to stop cutting him slack.. Won't be long before you can't trust Bernie to protect this country from terrorists... It's not that we're against his populist ideals Hillary's for those as well..

Now when she addresses an audience. She makes vague statements that imitate Bernie's. The statements are vague enough so that when/if she were to be elected she can discard them for her right wing centrist corporate agenda.
But they're designed to sound progressive enough to fool people who aren't paying close attention.
