Bernie Sanders

To me it's quite obvious why HRC and her minions have their underwear in a twist lately and are focusing on such trivial things like "he's not really a Democrat", Bernie's supporters, and other non-issue topics...
See title above.

(2,166 posts)Even as the people are waking up.
There is a shitstorm in the DNC offices --
what will they do?
If they try to 'appoint' an Obama-style Dem-in-name-only
the people will go wild.
Will they force Bernie to go Independent?
They profoundly don't get it.
The neoliberals are the intruders.

(23,156 posts)(and they do deserve fairness no matter what), they've been all bent out of shape as we used to say ever since Bernie declared his candidacy.
Here's a partial list:
He's NOT a Democrat!
His home state is lily white, and so he can't begin to hope to get support of any voters other than white ones.
He's too old!
She meets with small groups so she can listen to people, and he just makes speeches to vulgarly large crowds. (That last was said with a faint shudder of distaste.)
He's not a Democrat.
The only state he'll win is New Hampshire, and maybe not even that one.
He can only win in caucus states, or ones with open primaries, and we all know that caucuses and open primaries are the work of the devil.
He can't possibly win the general election.
Her delegate lead is insurmountable! (This was said when maybe eight states had held a primary or caucus.)
He hasn't been vetted! (And I'm still trying to figure out just what they mean by "vetted". I don't think it means what they think it means.)
She'll put him away on March 15th, and then we can turn all of our attention to the general election.
The Supreme Court!
He won't be able to work with Congress to get anything done.
He has no foreign policy experience.
Washington? Alaska? Hawaii? They don't count!
If all of the primaries and caucuses were closed then Hillary would win all of them! (As if independent voters, huge supporters of Bernie, won't be voting, or declining to vote, in the general election.)
And now Hillary seems to have conceded Wisconsin, although they assure us it doesn't really count. They're counting on NY to seal the deal, although even if she got 100% of the vote and delegates there, she'd still need to garner a few more delegates to be assured of the nomination. And of course, she won't get 100% of the delegates there. At best she'll get half of them, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Bernie beats her there.
It's been put out since about twenty minutes after the Inaugural on January 20, 2013, that Hillary was absolutely bound to be our next nominee and almost assuredly our next President. Indeed, she did a bunch of fund-raising early on, so that by late 2014 the common wisdom was that no new entry to the race could possibly hope to surpass her in money, so why bother? Keep in mind that Jeb Bush did exactly the same thing on the Republican side, and see where that got him.
The truth of the matter is that Hillary, her campaign, and most of her supporters (especially the ones here on DU) are mightily pissed that anyone, let alone a Socialist, for Chrissake! Senator from some stupid small state in the Northeast has the incredible gall to challenge her. And worse yet, he didn't dry up and disappear after the first three or four rounds of voting. Now they see the nomination slipping from her grasp. She, and her minions, just don't get it. They don't get that she supports far too many things that are anathema to the rest of us, including being willing to compromise on abortion (fighting for women here?) and Social Security, and supporting bombing and sending in troops across the globe. And those are only three of the many things that make so many of us completely unwilling for her to be President.

(631 posts)Thanks SheilaT for the recap of how often the Hillary supporters have to relocate their goal posts almost as soon as they shout them out. At some point they should question the script they've been handed. Don't they think that it affects their reputation to keep doubling back.

(23,156 posts)The link below is to a FB posting showing the front page of the local Wisconsin paper after Bernie and Hillary both held rallies. Even though Bernie drew thousands, compared to a few hundred for Hillary, you'd never even know he was there.
