Rally report

Last edited Mon Apr 18, 2016, 10:08 PM - Edit history (1)

So I had a seat on bench but when Bernie started to speak I got up and looked for a place to stand were the light wouldn't be in my eyes
Never found such a place. but I did find another area.closer to the stage to the North end . When he and Jane left there was a.crush up front but it became apparent that he was coming up my way and greeting people
I got to shake his hand and yell THANK YOU BERNIE!!! He. was grinning only inches away
I took a pic after he passed. by.
(sorry for the messy typing I'm not so great at texting on the subway.)

Phun Factory or 5Pointz? That was torn down for more housing for the affluent. That neighborhood has undergone a major transformation. Most of the high-rises near that park went up in the last five or six years. The park itself is pretty new.

i wasn't even thinking "get a handshake" it just... happened - right place at the right time. The way it was set up, there was a section of chairs thoughtfully put out for people who couldn't or didn't want to stand for hours. There was fencing on either side - the rest of the crowd was on the other side of the fence. There could have been a nasty rush of people and I'm not good with that at all. And I'm sure he heard me yell THANK YOU BERNIE because I have a BIIIIG mouth.

Did you get any vibes from the handshake?

How tall is Bernie?

Did you get a big smile with the handshake?

maybe we were on an elevated part of the land and the walkway he was on was lower? I was never there before. No vibes really - too excited. His hand was a little... puffy? Heh. I gripped it. He was grinning broadly but not looking right at me. Only a few people could get so close. Very very lucky.

In demos they give me the bullhorn because, I'm told, my voice carries.

He's 6', according to the NY Times. The description of him made me smile:

When I first met Sanders in person on Church Street, there were big streaks of dried mud on his shoes and dried blood on his neck from what looked to be a shaving mishap. His hair flew every which way in a gust of wind. At six feet tall, he is wiry, but he walks with shoulders hunched and elbows out, like a big, skulking bird. From a distance, he looked as if he could be homeless.

OMD, did I laugh!

You might have a point about the elevation of the land, but it's also possible that as a "wiry" person, he comes across as smaller.

The reason I was interested in this point is that height is a big advantage in men going for leadership positions.

But of course there are always exceptions. I'm pretty sure Kerry is very tall.

Nevertheless, I think back on my career in business and education, and just about every leader I have known is very tall.

That is not to say that short people do not wield power--they just do it in a different way. From what I've seen, tall people might very likely be operating on info from very clever short people.

But I digress. The height thing is just interesting to me because of what I've read about leaders.

I figured this was more my speed than the Prospect Park or Washington Sq. ones.
There was seating - the benches in the park and the campaign provided chairs too. That was nice. I can't stand around for hours anymore - but the time passed quickly. I had a friend with MS but we got out of touch. She got misdiagnosed by a lot of doctors before someone figured it out.
