Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumClosed vs Open Primaries
Here in California we have an open primary.
That is independents can vote in the Democratic Primary (not Republicans).
For this election cycle open primaries benefit Sanders.
Is there a down side to having open primaries rather than closed?

(4,805 posts)Where I live Independents in the Primary can choose an R ballot or a D ballot.
I chose the Democratic ballot and cast my vote for Bernie and other down ticket Dems.

I am afraid of how many people signed up with that American Independent party.

(1,301 posts)...you can't vote in the Democratic Primary, and that seems to already be confusing new voters.
This is the latest story regarding that.

I see the confusion.
I think registering "no party preference" is what allows you in California. No affiliation.
Our screwed up system seems to be set up to confuse people and limit democracy.
