Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumA message for my fellow Bernie supporters
We knew this was going to be a David v Goliath type of fight. The Clinton machine has been preparing for this election for twenty years.
Remember that.
They have had 20 years to lay the foundation, build infrastructure, do the research, cross every T, dot every I and hire an army of people to make the coronation happen. Not to mention the networking, favor swapping and other behind-the-scenes work of the real world. They reached out to disenfranchised people and embraced them warmly, inauthentically, but warmly. They made a lot of people feel like they mattered for once, that we counted. They are no longer invisible and going after her is only going to trigger a protective instinct. She is trusted to follow through on her promises to her supporters because following through, at this time, benefits her. People know this and they trust her nasty chess playing to get it done. A lot of people, especially in my generation, don't care about nasty chess playing as long as things get done. They don't care about her character because in the "real world," character doesn't matter.
This was never going to be a fair election, but we are putting up one hell of a fight. I'm still in it and will be until Bernie says otherwise. So, if you believe in the principles of why we must have President Sanders, stick with it.
Who's with me?

They reached out to the Third World and promised them Americans (and other nations) jobs!
Please people who read this acknowledge that you see this in a comment- acknowledge that you read the above.
I am not kidding, its called GATS Mode Four, and more recently, TiSA and TTIP also has these provisions. Also now India is trying to set up a Trade Facilitation Agreement on services.
So people should know, we're in for a very rough ride if we endorse this program without knowing it.
She is totally not what she pretends to be. Shes the exact opposite.

(7,699 posts)to make their voices heard, and then drop the ball. The Arc of the moral universe is looonnngggg, and we all have to stay right there pointing it towards justice.
America is waking up. We can't let her slumber ever again.
I just came from a Bruce Springsteen concert in Baltimore. I always listen for just one song (hubby is the Springsteen fan, hard core all the way). He didn't play it tonight, but now you can.
This is who we are. This song gives me goosebumps. I never work for progressive values and feel that I am alone, and this song expresses that well. But then, I was born in DC and grew up just over the line in Maryland, and spent my childhood in the 1960s in the family station wagon wending my way through an infinite series of protests (so in my formative years, I learned that standing up and speaking up en masse IS democracy), watched DC burn in the riots in 69 from my friend's back porch. In the 70s I lived with the brutish comments of male peers in the work force, saying right to my face "What are you doing here? You're a woman" ... and then grabbing me as they felt the impulse and all other kinds of indiginities, and I held on. And now my daughter is in what was once a male dominated environment, a high-paying job that requires vigorous physical stamina and athletic abilities as well as smarts and cunning.... because in the 70s, we said hell no get out of my way Jack..though I'd love to have the 30 percent of pay I was denied for 40 years of working....
Progressiveness is in my history, my heart, my soul, that part of my consciousness that feels the larger consciousness of human striving throughout human history that echoes and lives on in another plane.
Give up? I don't think I can even after I'm gone from this plane.

(314 posts)If Bernie decides to run under the banner of a different political party he would have to run
as a republican, a libertarian or as a green to have enough ballot access in the separate states to win the 270 electoral votes needed to win the Presidency. On top of that there are 45 state that have poor loser laws and though those laws have not been enforced in 43 states in presidential elections they are on the books
Both the Ds and the Rs have access to the ballot in 50 states and DC. The libertarians are ballot qualified in 37 states and the greens are qualified to run in 21 states. One other party is qualified to run in 14 states the rest of the parties qualified in a single digit number of states.
If Bernie wants to run as an independent without party affiliation he would have to gather signatures and petition each state
separately. An estimated 900,000 signatures would be required to be qualified to run in all 50 states and and DC. This is what Perot did in 92. The advantage here is getting your name placed on the ballot.
If Bernie runs as a write in candidate again without party affiliation his name will not appear on the ballot and there are seven states he is not allowed to run in, Hi, Okla, SD, La ,Ark, Nv,and SC, 6 states require no advance paperwork and the other 37 states require advance filing of a statement and an affidavit of to what I can see are intent and eligibility. As a write in Bernie would have access to 494 electors.
