Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI'm having an idea and need your input....
I posted this in grasswire's thread but was afraid it wouldn't be seen. Once my lightbulb goes off, my mind starts racing....

How about we look to greener pastures?
I was thinking we can take this to facebook. We can start a private group that new members have to be approved to join.
We will have the freedom to say what we want without being censored.
No matter what happens to Bernie's presidential campaign, the movement is not going anywhere.
We can call ourselves the Birdiecrats - or whatever we decide. We can vote on a new name AND make sure all the votes get counted
I'm sure most of you are on facebook.
Yes, there is also JPR but this can be in addition to that website & everyone that's over there should be invited to join our facebook group. Which would be so nice since several people we care about are not coming back here.
I'm not advocating leaving DU at all. This DU Bernie group will still be here. Those of you who enjoy the debate in GDP, it will still be there, and for those that come around and support Hillary if she is the nominee in the GE, DU will be more important than ever.
What I am advocating for is a new Bernie Group at a different setting where we can freely discuss our concerns with Hillary, freely chose to be Bernie or Bust, share Bernie news, photos, etc. without being scrutinized, alerted on, hidden or kicked out.
It would be nice to regain our freedom of speech. I never cared much for walking on eggshells. And I am not ready to be quiet about Bernie.
Thoughts?
(leaving for a few hours, but will check back in later and see if there is any interest )

(20,453 posts)Though, I'm doing Sanders campaign stuff, so I'm maxed out until after PA's primary.
JPR is a great place. Everyone to love is there, heh-heh.

people also should avoid sites like facebook, reddit for reasons which should be obvious to intelligent people.

(39,451 posts)there were no posts. Well there were a couple, but no responses.
Where is the discussion, the back and forth?
riderinthestorm
(23,272 posts)Vs the 150k + here at DU.
The more people sign up and participate the faster the dialogue will flow.
Come be a part of it! There are forums that get the same level of convo as here. ..
jillan
(39,451 posts)to go vent about the election and couldn't find any discussion.
I saw a couple of threads with no comments.

(23,272 posts)Good luck!
That forum will be as good or dead as we make it

(517 posts)If you go to the blue square in the upper right hand corner, click it and then click whats new. Thats where I join in discussion threads. Im too confused by all the other forums and stuff and I cant find anything usually except in the Whats New Thread.
Just my two cents.....as a confused JPR newbie.

(7,499 posts)I was on for about 36 hours once and it was a nightmare, so I closed it down never to return. I would have had to block or de-friend half of my family and in-laws to make it palatable. Of course by doing that, it would have set off a firestorm, so....
Anyone else not on FB, or am I the only one?
Can't we just hang out at JRP or find another venue?

(11,785 posts)OTOH, I won't get pissed off if that's what y'all want to do.

(3,366 posts)I had an acct for a while. I had no idea what to do with it, so I didn't go there often.
Then people were leaving messages on my page (family, customers), and I was afraid they'd be offended that I didn't reply.
Then people started sending me goats from the Facebook Farm or something, and I felt beholden to send them something back. Would a chicken do... or did it need to be something at least as large as a goat? I didn't know the goat protocol!
So I cancelled the acct
Those farm yard animals can be so tricky.

(20,234 posts)I thought I was the only one that tried facebook and backed away from it almost immediately because I didn't want everyone in my life (students, family, political activists) getting all involved with each other, and didn't want to have to deny friend requests ... the whole thing just seemed like a mess.
Maybe Bernie people really ARE my soul mates!

(1,890 posts)I too was on Facebook but cancelled. I didn't like the way they tracked their users.

(39,451 posts)And the other I use just for politics to sign onto Huffington Post and other places.
I have NO friends on that account - on purpose.
Plus this group would be private, people could not read what we write.

(23,867 posts)That's how we got Bernie on TYT. We even posted in chat the questions to be asked. We didn't get them all, but most. That's where the Democracy Spring live feed was going. There's a movement, but it ain't on this forum.

Plus I don't like facebook it's structured for the benefit of those who want to spy on us, not for us (e.g., no decent search function).

(332 posts)I've been thinking about building something like that to support progressives. I'd like to put together a few good ideas; news posts(DU), diaries(DKOS), listener supported(KPFA), comment disemvowelling(XKCD) and/or fading(Hacker News).
Could start real simple and build up as we go.
What do you think?
riderinthestorm
(23,272 posts)DKOS purged members already have a fairly brisk counter site operating. We do as well with JPR.
We need to keep the focus tight.
Can you help the JPR folks make it more user friendly?
FWIW, after a couple days, it's format is 110% okay for this techno challenged oldster...

My daughter and grandchildren, however are members of a couple Bernie FB pages. They shut down trolls quickly.

(9,688 posts)Must include input from many other progressive forums, to create a structure at least loosely based on a platform. There has to be some form of democratic (user input) moderation of how that platform is worded, how it is specific, how it is less specific. Again, can't be Sanders-centric, or DU-centric.
Cannot be privately owned.
Profits cannot accrue to individuals, or private interests (else it'll be bought out the moment it is viable).
There has to be a gathering outside the DU "box".
eta: JPR a good model that might grow into it. But: it is Sanders-centric and 2016-primary-oriented and DU-oriented from the outset, so is self limiting.
