For the past few weeks I've been checking the voter registrations of my parents and brother to make sure none of us were purged. The last time I checked was 3 days ago or so and everyone was a register Democrat, but I checked it around 5 minutes ago and my father is now unaffiliated.
Is there anything to do?

I had the same thing happen to me when my affiliation changed, I am extremely angry about it and will vote accordingly during the General Election.
It's like, OK, you don't want me in the party anymore? Then I accept being fired, but that frees me up to vote for each slot of the ticket according to what they stand for and shall vote the closest to my values in each. I now (or should I say I will be continuing to vet furiously ALL options for all slots local, I also know that since the party threw me out I am under no obligation to go with my third choice in the GE and endure the sulfuric stench yet again for the somewhat lesser evil of the more demonic ideologies (Necon and NeoLib Are demonic politically).
So far, My first Preference is Bernie Sanders, My second Green (because the platform is closer to my values than my third choice), a Neo-Con - Neo-Liberal combination that is Hillary Clinton, No Republican at all is in the running regarding voting my values.
All that being said, more simply stated, if I can't vote for Sanders, I will then vote Green, if I can't vote Green, I will leave that slot blank.
I didn't quit the party, the party quite literally fired me and kicked me out against my will. So they maybe should have thought twice before doing that because had I had my say in my primary choice, I likely would have voted lesser of two evils as usual. Until I was cast out, I was caught in a seemingly recursive time-loop of voting evil (how ever minor the demon may have been).
They kicked me out of the party, but they also freed me from this delusion of lesser evilism that has led to voting after so many times , each with a further rightward shift that now it appears such is voting for Republican policies cloaked in Democratic wording by Republicans cloaked as Democrats.
It was a slow boil, but Hillary is far to the right of the first Republican I voted against so many years ago.
