http://www.w3schools.com/ (Huge web site with tutrials on how to create web pages and manage web sites, create dynamic content, basically everything somebody needs to know to build a web site)

http://www.distrowatch.com (web site that reviews hundreds of Linux distros - free operating systems and package managers that have thousands of free applications, many are task-specific. Good way to learn all sorts of new skills. Free yourself from web sites that delete Bernie forums or censor democracy.)

http://www.raspberrypi.org ($35 credit card sized quad core Linux computer, runs off of a phone charger, hosts site on an SD card, needs no cooling fans. Good machine for experimenting. Can host a fairly large site - has the power to do so. Good platform for learning Linux - NOTE- I would recommend using a real hard drive, because SD cards wear out after some fairly high nuber of writes- , for an important web site you can use two identical small real USB hard drives (you'll need an external hub and extra power) then set them up in a RAID 1 configuration, so that if one has errors the other maintains the content- built in backup. keep a spare USB drive- you can use laptop drives. If you put it all in a box make sure there are holes near the top and bottom for ventilation. make sure the RPI or power supply or drives arent getting hot. If you shop smart you should be able to do all this for under $100 Note- You can also use any old computer to do this, but the power usage is likely to be much higher. There is no reason not to start out with an old comuter you already have and then transition to a dedicated box. Linux is recommended, but OSX or Windows would work too. You will need web server software.)

http://www.postgresql.org (free enterprise class ACID compliant object-relational SQL database, capable of hosting a large corporation in a robust bulletproof manner, supports replication, also useful for small projects, scales well.)

http://www.gimp.org/ (Gimp is The Free & Open Source Image Editor: This is the official website of the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. It is free software, you can change its source code and distribute your changes. Whether you are a graphic designer, photographer, illustrator, or scientist, GIMP provides you with sophisticated tools to get your job done. You can further enhance your productivity with GIMP thanks to many customization options and 3rd party plugins.)

https://inkscape.org/ (Inkscape is professional quality, free vector graphics software which runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.)
