(11,665 posts)I believe that you used to be able to write in a candidate...

(1,656 posts)I was planning on doing the same thing. Now I have to think what else I can do...
And the Write-In stuff was changed when all the primary laws were changed...

(15,406 posts)You've always been able to write-in a candidate.
BUT! In the recent past, a hell of a lot of voting bills have passed in many states that do everything to deny a person a vote.
Plus many states allow it, but don't count them. The only way to know, is to visit your state's SOS/election website.

(10,622 posts)left blank, I feel a collective message that is big enough to be noticed is the most important thing (for those choosing not to vote for Hillary's corporate and wealthy interests over the majority of citizens but abhor Republicans, which is really another way of saying they abhor Republicans, I am not saying anyone on DU wold ever dream of such a thing, but) if people prefer the interests of the non uber-wealthy and thus prefer Sanders, and he is not on the Democratic ballot, such people should coordinate before the GE to all use the same method of making the message clear, by not scattering protest votes, perhaps agree to all register and/or vote Green.
Who knows, it may even help lay the roots for a third party to take over one of the slots in a two party system that would represent the poor, the workers, the common man, and our common need for a survivable biosphere after one or both of the self destructing two parties dies, leaving the slot open for such a people party in our two party system, the Revolution needs must take root somewhere, if the Democratic ground is too salted for it to grow, the revolution must find more fertile ground to take root and grow. This makes sense no?.

I am not advocating voting against Democrats or third parties, but those that feel that way should have a clear and effective plan in place.

(36,063 posts)It potentially creates opportunity to blame a close loss on Sanders and his supporters.
I'm one of those who thinks it's a lot easier to work for reform from inside the party. The party is definitely not what it should be, and I won't be around to see much of what happens, but that's the way it seems to me.

(872 posts)Do I care? No. It would be one thing if there were a half way acceptable opponent, say Joe Biden, but the opponent is a moral zero. There's a line in the sand and they went past it.

(36,063 posts)does suggest there is an us you might care about.
One of the things 'we' might want is to work for reform inside the party, and I didn't, still don't, know if you considered that.
What if Sanders enters this debate and suggest he wants his reform to work within the party? Would it make sense to be as objectionable as possible to the party we hope to work within?
I do understand your deep feeling. I have felt similarly and went beyond that feeling to consider what consequences might follow from that. The movement is important to me, I don't know where Sanders is going to choose to move it, and I don't want to compound it's problems.
My SO plans on doing just as you and gets as angry at me for not simply endorsing a write-in campaign.

(872 posts)I hope to vote for Bernie as the nominee, but if he isn't, I checked and my state, Rhode Island, appears to count write ins. I will double check that it's allowed in the general.
If it isn't allowed, I will vote Green.
Of course, if Bernie doesn't get the Democratic nomination, maybe he will run on the Green ticket; the have offered that to him.

(27 posts)he doesn't get the Dem nomination. That's the only option that would get him in the GE if he decides to continue through the convention, and I am immensely grateful to Stein and the Greens for offering. The thought of another dangerous sociopath as president is too horrifying for words. Bernie could still go Independent after the CA primary and get on the ballot in almost every state, though. I guess we'll see. I sincerely hope he understands how critical to the safety of the world it is that he be elected President THIS time.
Really I'm hoping he can get the lead in pledged delegates which is still a possibility. Am keeping that positive thought in mind and continuing to work towards that goal.
