Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumUPDATES: Some photos from Madison tonight:
Photos are just beginning to be posted around the internet. I will add them when I see them rather than start new OPs.
House, officially packed. #Bernie2016 #FeelTheBern
#BernieSanders draws crowd of 10,000 in Madison, Wisconsin. #FeelTheBern #Bernie2016 #WisconsinReallyHatesScottWalker
I will add more as I find them. What an incredible speech, he hit every important issue and ripped the Republicans apart to great cheers from the crowd.
Editing to add this photo from MadFloridian's OP in the Primary Forum:
Apparently they had to turn people away!
Bernie about to enter the stadium. The crowd roared!

(19,926 posts)That's what I heard on the radio this morning.

(9,126 posts)I know they are trying to downplay it all over, saying Madison is a liberal bastion. But who cares? Will Hill only speak in rural areas?? I doubt it.

(19,926 posts)and even on the news break - I don't know who does the little news pieces between Hartmann's show segments - they said "Sanders is trying to take the nomination from Clinton". Something to that effect. Ugh. It makes me feel better to think that pretty soon they'll have to turn that around and say Clinton is fighting to take the nom from Sanders!

(6,145 posts)He addressed a broad spectrum of issues, sounded strong and looked like a president. Seemed like something special this evening.
Edit: Just for some perspective here's Bobby Jindal's "great crowd" at his event tonight.

(62,325 posts)mics so they could hear him. That's wonderful. So that make the crowd about 13,000!
Glad they were able to hear him.

(882 posts)Really impressed by the number of young people there. Sitting next to someone who looked barely 18, clapping enthusiastically when Bernie brought up his opposition to the TPP was very encouraging indeed.

(882 posts)Basically it was packed. You may see certain pictures that show an area on the floor that looked sparse. The reason is that there was a raised platform on the floor, about a third of the way back from the stage and it stretched nearly the with width of the floor. Standing on the platform was a solid wall of media people. There were some seats set up behind that platform but the only thing anyone sitting on those seats could see was the platform and backs of the media people, so those seats were only about half full. In fact they didn't even bother putting that many seats in that area since the view was completely obstructed.
Too bad it was set up like that. The floor would have clearly been packed if the are behind the platform didn't have a completely obstructed view. There were people in the very top row around the entire coliseum, it was that full.
Even in the seats that stretched up behind the stage, the kind that are always empty at rock shows because you're lucky if you can see the back of someone's head on stage, were just about packed full.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)but thought I noticed a few empty seats, though they did say it was filled to capacity. I just thought they were reserved for some reason. Because why turn people away if there were empty seats?
Thanks for explaining that. What a fantastic show of support for Bernie's campaign.
Did you get any photos? Would love to see them if you did. If not, no problem.
Great comment, appreciate it very much.

Ed Shultz was one of the standers...and he stood through the entire speech at the back of the press stand.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)for explaining the mystery. I can understand not wanting to sit in a seat where you cannot see anything, better to stand in the aisle. That makes sense.
I wonder how many people were unable to get in at all and/or if they had mics set up so at least they could hear him.
dragonlady
(3,577 posts)that he would have an interview with Bernie on his show tomorrow (Thursday, 5 pm Eastern).
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)eg, I didn't know he has attended some house parties in CA last week, some celebrities not very familiar with them to be honest, Mimi Kennedy I believe held one for him, they raised $50,000 far less than they could have if Bernie would allow a Pac which he doesn't want.
He's a very busy guy. I hope he gets some rest. His schedule is so intense though I think he thrives on being around the people.

(882 posts)It took me a while to figure out how to post it. But notice how the area right behind the media platform, where the view is blocked, is the only area without people. And then see how everything else is full. Off to the right and left and behind me is solid people. Even behind the stage, at the very top you can see them.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)there!
I have read that there may have been another 3,000 people outside which means there were 13,000 people there last night if true.

(75,480 posts)meeting, but we had a speech from a candidate running for Congress in my district and I swear this guy is a Bernie clone. A true blue social democrat, who is working to get homeless off the street by giving them a place to live with no strings attached. He's taken a pledge not to take dark money. He wants free education. I mean he couldn't be anymore Bernie if he was Bernie.
I swear there is something in the air. The tide is shifting to social democracy.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)he can get when he wins the WH. People need to support good candidates like that and I think they would benefit from Bernie's coat tails as people look at who is most likely to help Bernie in Congress.
I posted about another candidate who is emulating Bernie and refusing to take Corp donations.
So that's TWO candidates we need to help anyway we can.
The winds of change are blowing. Everywhere.

(1,945 posts)My daughter and family live on the border of AG and SLO, and I know there are a lot of die hard conservatives there. I'm really glad to hear that there is someone similar to Bernie running in that district. Although she is socially liberal, daughter calls herself a libertarian--to my shame--but she's been commenting favorably about things she's seeing re Bernie, so I hope to convince her to Feel the Bern!!
Cleita
(75,480 posts)So I was blown away. Also he's a farmer but he's against all the GMO Monsanto crowd, and is into sustainable farming. He's going to be able to talk to these conservative ranchers in their own language which means that all those votes that have been traditionally Republican might turn progressive I hope.
WHEN CRABS ROAR
(3,813 posts)It is time for a real progressive populist movement, but the message needs to be clear and not overly complex and it needs to be repeated over and over to drive it home into the minds of the people.
Then Bernie will win

I loved that opening...about the billboard...he ripped the RePukes apart for that.
Did anyone hear...Wheel of Bern!?! That was funny.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)LOVED it!
Didn't hear 'wheel of Bern' but did hear the crowd entertaining themselves before he arrived chanting: Feel - The - Bern!
Someone else started a cheerleader chant: 'Who do we want?' BERNIE! 'When do we want him? NOW! Lol, and 'Give me a B, give me an E give me an R etc.
They were in a great mood!

(882 posts)Which seems to be a pretty consistent thing.
I was reminded of the spirit behind the recall protests against Walker in Wisconsin. The same kind of huge groundswell of support. That didn't end in victory but the will was there and all those people are still here and very ready to support someone like Bernie Sanders.

(55,981 posts)the risk of harm to you and your family if you had millions of us with your back. And when you decided to go for it, I don't think it was apparent that you did. But Senator, thank you for taking a chance. I think you've got your millions of supporters. Of course I suspect that the billionaires will attempt to Swiftboat you, in fact they already have (McCatskill for one), but I think it will back-fire and stain the billionaire's own candidate. Keep fighting the good fight Senator.

(62,325 posts)only succeeded in losing respect from democrats which he will never get back. The DNC's member also tried and felt the backlash of people who are sick to death of these negative campaign tactics.
Then O'Mally tried and lost the respect and trust of many who originally supported him.
But it will get worse which is why Bernie is correct regarding the need for a powerful, strong Political Revolution to overwhelm those who would try to harm him and the people who support him.
He was very courageous to step up to the task on our behalf, because he certainly knows how the 'game' is played.
And that is why we have to be always aware of the smear campaigns and destroy them as soon as they rear their ugly heads with FACTS. Thankfully there is a new media now that can be effective in doing that. The Corp Media will most likely be a part of the effort to stop him.

(62,325 posts)No doubt they are puzzled by the failure of all these old tactics. But they will only become more desperate and more likely to try harder.
And we need to be ready to overwhelm them with the FACTS and make sure as many people as possible SEE these despicable tactics for what they are.
They attacked Warren also and felt the backlash.
This political movement must grow to such overwhelming numbers there is no way they fight it anymore.
