Related: About this forumBe wary about Guccifer without substantiation....remember Dan Rather.
The Guccifer story is breaking in multiple outlets tonight.
I'm suddenly reminded of Dan Rather.
Let's proceed with caution.

(474 posts)the first reports of breaking news so often contain inaccuracies.
i'm already exhausted from the clinton presidency and it hasn't even happened yet. 4 years of wall-to-wall clinton coverage would beat us all into a coma.

(26,549 posts)Remove the evidence of your intrusion from the logs.
The lack of log entries doesn't really indicate anything.

(10,007 posts)Chances are that Guccifer is far more talented than the FBI's computer forensics people.
However it is wise to exercise extreme caution when assessing Guccifer's allegations.

(11,366 posts)I know because my company has helped train them.
But, that aside, the FBI has not said they couldn't find evidence. If you read the sentence carefully, you'll see that the statement was unattributed.

(17,064 posts)But the hacker is only a sidebar. The FBI will likely be able to determine if he hacker her computer. He's already been charged with computer crimes.
The main issue remains her handling of classified information, whether or not the Romainian guy hacked into it.

(50,130 posts)Unless he was able to access a whole boatload of classifed info kept in folders somewhere. He says he has 2 gb of info that's too hot to release. National security info.

(50,130 posts)...emails with Sidney Blumenthal that she had not turned over to investigators. Tonight there is an interview with him from his jail cell in Virginia, with lots of detail on how he hacked and so on. We just need to be careful and not get caught in a trap if there is one by jumping the gun on this guy.

(16,631 posts)HRC claim she's once again a victim of baseless smears
and it can muddy the real investigation which should sink her independently of any potential hacking
the quid pro quo at State, evading FOIA, etc. is enough

grasswire
(50,130 posts)Is that it?
ETA: I understand that this is a site run by a private individual and whatever he say goes. I just don't think it's appropriate for a venue like this. This site and DKOS have been getting pretty unpleasant because of the owners bringing the hammer down on people being able to speak freely. I think it needs another model. Not where one person with certain political leanings has absolute control and uses it as a revenue stream.
grasswire
(50,130 posts)So there's that.
If you build it, people will come.

(332 posts)Required fealty to Bernie is a no go. I'm all in but I would rather it be a more open progressive site. Also their software framework is restrictive and unwieldy. And it's in private hands. A membership sponsored organization with a mission statement and a board running things is what I'm looking for.

(45,251 posts)That has nothing to do with this, though.
I find that message board posters don't want to wait a minute and a half to see how a story develops--or doesn't.

(50,130 posts)Rather was entrapped in a bogus story of Rove's creation.

(36,418 posts)actually contains unauthorized classified information. A lot of it. The law doesn't require a showing of actual harm to Nat'l security to convict under Sec 793 (e) and (f). So Guccifer's claim is icing. Don't sweat this one.

(11,366 posts)Guccifer's comment means two things:
1. She mishandled national security data so carelessly that it could be accessed, making it easier to prove in court.
2. It's an easier story to follow, so now maybe media members other than right-wing sources will start paying attention to the seriousness of this case.

(11,366 posts)SIPRnet and JWICS are closed-loop systems. They don't face the outside and you can't email into or out of them. They are also monitored by a team of data security experts. I'm not saying they could never be hacked, but it's less likely than .gov sites.
Dot gov sites have to face the public since they work with the public and those have been hacked, unfortunately. But there was no risk of national security data being released. Sadly, the people who suffered dot gov hacks have been employees who had their personal information accessed.

(6,119 posts)At a minimum, Guccifer provides the basis for probable cause in establishing the case against Blumenthal, and through it to charges related to Clinton's email, server, etc. You need Guccifer to testify to directly provide the basis to introduce his emails into evidence in a possible criminal case.
