Here's a convention hypothetical for you. Your opinion?

Suppose that after the CA primary, Hillary either has the majority of the pledged delegates, or is very close. Then, for whatever reason, Hillary drops out before the convention starts.

Who would you then find acceptable as the nominee? Multiple answers are acceptable, even preferred. For me, it would be Bernie, then Al Gore (so dreaming is allowed too).

I'm posting this now because of the latest Hillary email report. Maybe my hypothetical won't be so hypothetical soon. If that's the case, the DNC would need to be very careful about who gets the nod.

The ONLY way she wins the nomination is with Super Delegate votes. They would have to vote for a candidate who is LOSING TO TRUMP in the polls, over a candidate who is beating Trump in the polls by 15 points!

If she's indicted, which is HIGHLY LIKELY, Bernie should be the nominee. They will either, insanely, run a nominee who is under FBI INDICTMENT or make her step down (wisely), but no one ever said the corrupt Democratic Party isn't insane or is wise! I could see them letting her run while Lynch decides whether she will indict or not. That's how corrupt the party has become.

You know, that "math" we keep hearing about.

So even if Bernie were to take 80% of the remaining pledged delegates, and finish with over 200 more than she, it still wouldn't matter.

They can say whatever they want today, then say the exact opposite tomorrow. None of it matters until the day they cast their vote.

You can plan to get married, get engaged, plan for the wedding, etc. But none of that makes you married. Only completing the ceremony successfully makes you married.

Seems a big chunk of the public (largely thanks to the press) doesn't understand the difference.

She would have to grab 95 percent of those to become the presumed nominee (without super-delegates). The networks are saying they are going to call the election for her September 7 after NJ reports but before California does. This is outrageous. I think I know why - the mention of Gore's name reminded me of something.

Once the networks declare a winner, if the other candidate starts contesting it, that other candidate is immediately called out as a sore loser. Remember the Election 2000 debacle? That is what I think will happen on September 7 if the networks follow up with their threat.

But think about it. What authority do networks have to declare a winner? None. They can have opinions but no authority attaches. So buckle up and think if this happens how we should respond if the networks follow through and then start calling Bernie a sore loser if he objects....

*These are the numbers Steve Kornacki presented a few days ago (MSNBC). He said she will not hit the magic number before the convention.

If Clinton's not in the picture by the convention, it will almost certainly be because the server investigation has blown up in her face. That's not going to reflect well on anyone who might have known what she was doing at the time.

I think if the Party goes with anyone other than Bernie, we'll be shooting ourselves in the foot in the GE. It would be different if he were still in the race, but doing poorly. He's still drawing crowds and bringing in money. He's still winning states. I fully expect the Party will try to slot someone else into Hillary's shoes, but it's a Bad Idea.

Joe's showed his hand a bit TOO boldly of late - and that hand has "ESTABLISHMENT!" written all over it. What about Warren??? She's already eviscerating Trump with his own words. Then she turns around and picks Bernie for her Veep! YOWSER!!!

across a broad spectrum. He's the one who's shown he can raise money and bring new people in the party. He's run a wily campaign without the aid of superPAC funding. He's the one polling better than Trump, not Warren. Choosing someone other than Bernie will alienate many Bernie supporters, which is not smart.

I think your hypothetical is good, but maybe better to specify who we'd like and/or accept that the party is actually likely to consider.

Or if you think Bernie still fits that criteria, state why.

Personally I don't expect they'd ever pick Bernie as her backup. That he'll likely finish within 10% of her means nothing to them.

I see them going with Biden too. Of course, would greatly prefer someone like Warren, and I think she'd step up to it if asked, but don't see that happening. The "historic first woman president" is far less important if it's not HRH or her ilk.

But what about technically? If she drops out before the race ends, does that not make Bernie the winner? Wouldn't it be only after she's nominated at the convention that they could select whomever as an emergency, were she to drop out?

he earned it, plus he's beating Trump in the polls. But, if Hillary has to drop out, due to whatever reason, here is what I see will happen:
1. Hillary wins the nomination
2. She announces her running mate for V.P.
3. She drops out
4. Democratic Party gives her running mate the nomination.
5. Bernie supporters walk out and do one of the following based on each individuals convictions:
A. Write in Bernie during the G.E. where allowed to write in a candidate.
B. Stay home and not vote at all
C. Hold their noses and anger and vote for Hillary's replacement (V.P. selection)
D. Vote for Trump
C. Vote for Jill Stein (Green Party)

Personally if Hillary (or her replacement if applicable) is the nominee I will skip voting for the Presidency as neither candidate will be acceptable to me, and I'm tired of holding my nose. But, I will still vote for all down ticket Democrats on the ballot. I would write in Bernie for President, but my state doesn't allow write-ins.

I think first, TPTB has decided to run the clock on this. Hillary Team is to continue campaigning as if there's nothing to see here, press on with getting through the remaining primaries singing the meme she's already won.

In the meantime, puppet masters are getting their ducks in a row, vp choices in place, but also they have Biden also in play just in case things don't quite roll out the way they had envisioned.

I would not be surprised to see Biden trotted out just in the nick of time.

I don't care who she picks for her VP, or who the DNC is foolish enough to try to shit on us with. Bernie has been in the race, he has been winning and is the only one who can win against Trump.

If necessary, I'll vote Green, and any down-ticket people who aren't DNC/DLC/Third Way.
