Related: About this forumNYT: Bernie Sanders’s New Political Group Is Met by Staff Revolt
This is troubling. Most of the staff walked out because Weaver is in charge. This is NOT a good start. Weaver needs to do the right thing and step down. And forget the 501c4. Do a PAC because we need one that represents our interests and supports the right candidates!
But while the establishment of the new group, Our Revolution, has been eagerly awaited by many of his most ardent supporters, it has been met with criticism and controversy over its financing and management.
A principal concern among backers of Mr. Sanders, whose condemnation of the campaign finance system was a pillar of his presidential bid, is that the group can draw from the same pool of dark money that Mr. Sanders condemned for lacking transparency.

(11,945 posts)It makes misleading statements about Sen. Sanders by omitting relevant information such as: Bernie's "accusation" of unfair treatment by DWS was proven by leaked DNC emails, and Jane and Bernie's vacation house was funded by the sale of a house Jane inherited.
Certainly progressives should keep an eye on progressive organizations, but the dark rumors and allegations that are currently circulating about Bernie Sanders and his Our Revolution movement are themselves highly suspicious, especially when the NYT publishes a piece like this on the very day Bernie is scheduled to livestream the official kickoff of Our Revolution.
There are various forces aligned against Bernie and against any progressive movement. Some are merely partisan, still angry at Bernie for nearly defeating their candidate. Some are strategic: those who serve the interests of the oligarchy were shaken by the immense popularity of Bernie's campaign and want to stamp out any and all progressive populist movements. They know Bernie can be very effective and are undoubtedly disturbed by Our Revolution's goal of replacing corrupt office holders who are oligarchic tools with progressive candidates committed to serving the people of this country. They are on the alert for any and all sizeable movements stirring among the commoners.
The struggle continues, and the forces aligned against it are very wealthy and very powerful. But we the people, if we stick together and resist attempts to divide us, can do it. Because we have the numbers. And they know it.

(8,333 posts)I realize Bernie is not popular with the media. But I am concerned about all those people quitting the campaign, and would like to know what's really going on.
Maybe more details will come out over the next few days.

Thanks for bringing up the subject, shireen.

(11,945 posts)now. We know the MSM is run by a handful of powerful megacorporations that are an integral part of the oligarchy. I guess Bernie's popularity scared 'em so they don't want Our Revolution to get off the ground. But lately I'm finding it disturbing to see it happening on various social media, as well. I don't know how it is on Twitter, but some progressive websites appear to have been infiltrated by Bernie-haters who question his honesty, motives and goals. After listening to him for ten years on a call-in radio program and then following his inspiring presidential campaign, as well as researching and reporting on him here, I feel I know enough about Bernie to trust him. He has been a progressive his entire adult life; he has had the courage to stick his neck out and stand up for what he believes in repeatedly (he even got arrested for it), so it's highly unlikely that he is going to change at this point. I wonder if he has any idea of what is being said about him. Or maybe he's just too busy (and worn out) to worry about it. Makes me sad to see it, though. No wonder progressives have such a hard time uniting and moving forward.

(20,185 posts)I have no idea why Jane wanted him. Running a non-profit called OUR Revolution was supposed to mean OURS not THEIRS (the 1%). If he wants to run a progressive super PAC, go for it, but leave the grass roots, populist non-profit to us.
