Vermont Senator and former U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders made another surprise appearance in Palm Springs.
He and his wife were spotted Tuesday night at Kalura Trattoria, an Italian restaurant at the corner of Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Canyon Way. They arrived about 7 p.m. and spent 90 minutes there, said restaurant manager Jim Gutierrez.
Customers and staff noticed the Democratic senator, but Gutierrez said they tried not to disturb him as he ate his sausage rigatoni and while his wife, Jane O'Meara Sanders, had chicken Parmesan. The only person to talk to them was a customer sitting beside the couple and they discussed politics.
On their way out, Sanders asked if anyone wanted to take pictures and "we said, 'Yes,'" according to Gutierrez, a Sanders supporter during the primaries.
"He said he liked Palm Springs and he wants to come back," Gutierrez said. "No one would believe he had dinner here last night."
