U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Independent who ran for president in 2016 and nearly won the Iowa caucuses, will headline a political convention in Des Moines this summer.

Sanders will be the keynote speaker at Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement’s “action convention” on July 15 at the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines. The event will be his first return to Iowa since the 2016 campaign when he challenged and then campaigned on behalf of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
