Sen. Bernie Sanders plans to endorse Ben Jealous in the Maryland governors race on Thursday

Sen. Bernie Sanders and Our Revolution, a national progressive group that formed after his presidential bid, are scheduled to endorse Ben Jealous in the Maryland governor’s race on Thursday, according to an email sent to Our Revolution supporters in Maryland.

Sanders and Our Revolution are expected to make the joint endorsement in Silver Spring.

The support from Sanders (I-Vt.) and Our Revolution is not a surprise given Jealous’s role in Sanders’s 2016 campaign and his former position at Our Revolution, but Sanders’s political muscle is expected to give a major boost to the former NAACP president’s campaign, helping to raise money and to energize the progressive wing of the party in Maryland.

“With Ben as governor, we can make health care a right, not a privilege,” Sanders said in a statement. “We can create a minimum wage which is a living wage. We can stop the school-to-prison pipeline and end mass incarceration. We can make college tuition affordable, protect our environment and create good-paying jobs.”
