Bernie Sanders

This family has some good genes. Strong evidence that Bernie can be active and vital for eight years.

The 80-year-old candidate began to cry as he gave his answer. "My brother announced just today that he is running to be President of the United States," he said.

For some reason, after mocking McCain's age to bits in 2008, Democrats went a different direction in 2015.
So far, O'Malley is the only younger pebble on the beach. (January 18, 1963)
I believe that between 55 and 60 may be about the ideal age to run for President for the first time, but with an older vice President, along the lines of Obama/Biden.
But age alone is not stopping me from supporting the person I believe to be best candidate.

(9,126 posts)We were told to wait as Obama learned on the job and Republicans ran circles around him. I want someone who comes out swinging this time and isn't afraid to beat back the zombies. I don't care how old he is. I don't care about his accent or his crazy hair. The only thing I ask is that he doesn't lie to me. I'm sick to death of being lied to.

Read of Bernie's UK brother when it came up at Bernie's recent press meeting announcement. Good on both!
I am older than Bernie...my brain still works...almost all the time!
You are as old as you believe yourself to be...Bernie's age is perfect for a president...

(41,208 posts)He will not win (due to the nature of the constituency, not his age); but he's a good bloke.

(9,126 posts)Bernie mentioned his brother in his announcement speech so I looked him up. I was surprised to see he was 80 and still so involved. That speaks to a deep commitment and heartfelt ideas I think. It's interesting that two poor kids from Brooklyn made it so far.

Walk 3 miles the other days, kayak.. sometimes. Watch minor league baseball (I know that doesn't count).
Bernie AIN'T old !!
BrotherIvan
(9,126 posts)I agree that 70 is the new 50. People are active and sharp if they keep doing what they love. I think Bernie will be a modern day Teddy Roosevelt.

(6,446 posts)the part that jumped out at me:
Mrs Clinton's campaign is expected to raise more than $2 billion (£1.3 billion) while Bernie Sanders has said he will rely mainly on small donors.
Larry Sanders said his campaign war chest was a mere £3,000 while he estimated the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats were each spending £250,000 in the area.

(9,126 posts)I'm glad people are embracing it. His out of the box looks and manner are being greeted as a breath of fresh air and it's great to see this country might not be the American Idol everyone thinks it is. We'll see. Once O'Malley starts wearing his muscle shirts, things might change.

(9,126 posts)Because even for the very wealthy, an equitable country is good for them too. They are so blinded by obscene wealth and so protected from seeing the destruction they foist upon the world due to their seflishness and greed. It has been ever thus. But we do know the formula of building better lives for the 99% and that is what Bernie is fighting for.
