Not everyone in the AA community is down on Bernie. "Ol Bernie Sanders For President"

July 17, 2015

(ThyBlackMan.com) I like Bernie Sanders. He seems to be non-calculating, and he talks common sense. The same is true of Elizabeth Warren, and I think they would make a great ticket. In fact, the perfect ticket. The only problem is, Bernie Sanders is a self-avowed Democratic Socialist, and the American people have a knee-jerk response to the word “socialist.”

Americans have been conditioned by capitalists to revile the word “socialism,” even democratic socialism. They associate it with despotism and closed societies. So the people simply have to be educated into a better understanding of the “isms.” They have to be educated to understand that both socialism and capitalism can be either good, or toxic if taken to extremes. And at this point, capitalism has gone way off the reservation. According to a BernieSanders2015Princeton study it has destroyed American democracy. That’s right. Princeton University has done a study that has declared that America is no longer a democracy. It is now an oligarchy, completely controlled by the rich ( http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-echochambers-27074746

In addition, capitalism is responsible for the genocide of as many as 100 million Native Americans (6 generations over 100 years), slavery and Jim Crow, America’s current economic plight, and it threatens to destroy the planet by placing profits before science. Democratic socialism, on the other hand, simply means to have the common sense to give people priority over corporations, and between now and the next election the people can be educated to that fact – especially when they’re hungry and economically depressed.

With regard to Hillary Clinton, I don’t dislike her, but I don’t completely trust her either. She’s much too careful and calculating. She far too remote from the people, and far too much of a political animal for my taste. She gives me the impression that she’s much more interested in attaining the office of the President than she is helping the people. In short, she’s much too mechanical, and she doesn’t seem to have any real passion. Her passion seems to be manufactured. She strikes me as all ambition, and the people are merely an afterthought that she’ll make every effort to help, if it’s convenient. In addition, I haven’t forgotten that she’s a former Goldwater Republican, and I’m also very uncomfortable with her association with the Bilderberg Society. I don’t like secret societies – especially when they’re trying to control the world.

Some snip from the comments section:

Hettie,
.
You said that Bernie Sanders don’t have “people Skills.” Well, that’s EXACTLY what most people like most about him. “People skills” implies a well honed ability to manipulate people. We don’t need that. What we need in America right now is someone who’s willing to just go from the shoulder, as we used to say back in the day, and that’s exactly what Bernie does. Bernie simply says what he thinks, while Hillary is prone to take a poll first to see what words are most popular and what words are least popular....

snip

...Bernie should be the ONLY CANDIDATE that the black community stands behind. He is HONEST. He has a proven track record. He always do what he say, and says what he do. Tell all your family and friends to vote for BERNIE.

Black America should stand for BERNIE 100% and not support that two-faced, drug-money backed, war-mongering Clinton. Yeah, she will take us to war again. As the first woman president, she will be anxious to go to war to prove she ain’t soft. We don’t need no more war.

snip

Clinton is not trustworthy. She say whatever she think necessary to make a political point. She don’t stand behind what she say. She won’t do what she say she gonna do. She has flip flopped so many times.

snip

Very on point. At this point, Bernie has my vote. I didn’t know about the Princeton study. That is scary

people stop thinking anyone is entitled to a voting block then its fine. to many comments on this site think that because of what Bernie did in the 60's, we as African Americans are obligated to vote for him. Not more than we were obligated to vote for Barack Obama. Candidates need to earn someones vote. And reading peoples responses on shutting up and being trouble makers especially at NN 2015 sounds really familiar.

They do not have the power, that is local control.
However who they appoint to the Justice department does have the power to prosecute civil rights violations...and we have had a black AG for the last 6 years that has done nothing much at all.

I think that will change with a Sanders as president, because he is sincere in wanting justice pursued by the DOJ.

And welcome to DU,

condemn the events in Ferguson.

In 1991, he spoke out against the epidemic of incarceration and especially the death penalty, the sentencing rules that were passed then and that targeted Black people as well as the police harassment of Black.s

There is a video on this website showing Bernie's statement in Congress on that.

Bernie has been unrelenting in his support of Black issues. That is why the demonstration at Netroots Nation was so troubling to those of us who know about and support Bernie.

Bernie doesn't need to be taught. He already knows that Black issues and police reform are top on the list of issues to be dealt with quickly, directly and strongly.

Bernie's strong support of Black rights and fair treatment over his entire career has been ignored by the press until now. That is why people don't know about it. This is one of his strongest points, and he will win the support of African-Americans because of his unwavering support of their interests over the years.

This misunderstanding is due to a lack of information in the media about Sanders' stellar record in this regard.

I have no fear that Black people will soon be amazed by what they learn about Bernie, this white man from a white state who has stood tall and strong for them throughout his career.

To associate any persons race, gender, sexual orientation, true gender, or any other attribute people are BORN with, to a reason to vote for a particular person, is frankly un-American.

Regardless of superficial differences, people should vote their conscience.

I think Sen. Sander's time in the sun is coming and that will be with the help of many, many americans, POC included. He is. so far, the most genuine and as was said, "non-calculating" in trying to win votes. He is putting proposals out there that will help all people, no doubt. His campaign is starting to address the issue that are plaguing some of the people. We will see in the next 16 months, just what will be concrete and viable as solutions go, to...that...problem.

I am told by the Corporate Media, and nothing that comes from a corporate funded campaign.

I know Bernie has a lot of support in minority communities because I see it every day. So I don't worry about it. Meantime Bernie is soaring because he has a message that people want to hear and have not been hearing for decades now.

So clearly the focus on this is confined to partisan blogs and is not a concern for people living in the real world. They will vote for whoever they believe will make the best president for this country.

who don't follow matters and alternative news sources or know what's really going on through no fault of their own. Some still rely on M$M, which can be very damning even WaPo (Bezos Billionaire Gazette) and others.

MSNBC now with populist Ed Schultz, Bernie's best ally gone now, what a shame. Only 10% of the US population has internet service I read recently. I truly hope when and if people see and hear Bernie apart from M$M, they sense the genuine goodness in him and his powerful advocacy for The People.

*Good piece- Local ABC 7 Video of the workers in DC yesterday striking for $15 minimum wage and meeting on Capitol Hill with Bernie, Rep. Keith Ellison and others sponsoring this bill.

Like other places in the US, many federal contract workers in DC cannot live on the $10.10 increase from $$7.25 last year, and have to take second jobs. The federal employees are cooks, clerks, landscapers and largely minority black and Latino workers.

He has never spouted talking points or pandered for votes.

If that means he loses because he's not as slick as some others, then I'm fine with that.

I can hold my head up because I'm proud of my candidate.

My original title for the post was "What is the AA community", with the body being "Your OP's title doesn't make sense."

It was a brain fart because all I could think of was Alcoholics Anonymous and African American didn't even waft into my consciousness. This morning, whammo, there it was in my noggin.

I'm not stupid; I'm just sloooooow.

Now is the time for a real progressive populist movement, but the message needs to be clear and not overly complex and it needs to be repeated over and over to drive it home into the minds of the people.

Then Bernie will win
