"Why this Latino supports Bernie Sanders and not Hillary Clinton" Powerful Kos diary posted yesterda

It includes excerpts from his speech at La Raza

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/07/29/1406832/-Why-this-Latino-supports-Bernie-Sanders-and-not-Hillary-Clinton

Due to recent tone deaf statements that marginalize Sanders' existing minority support, I felt compelled to post this article and say a few words about my support as a Latino for Bernie Sanders and why I do not support Hillary Clinton.

I am proud to support a candidate who actually took the time to visit the fields and see first hand how migrant workers were being horribly mistreated and then spoke up for them. I am proud to support a candidate who traveled to Nicaragua to take a stand against U.S. imperialism under Reagan. Actions speak louder than words. I am proud to support a candidate who rightfully says the war on drugs has been a failure. I am proud to support a candidate who believes healthcare is a right, especially since this issue affects minorities in such a disproportionate way.

I am proud to support a candidate who doesn't need to be dishonest about their immigrant heritage to pander or flip flop and refuse to take a stand until it's politically expedient. I have zero trust in Hillary Clinton to be an advocate for Latinos and immigrants in general. I fully expect her continued support for violent right wing regimes and then to continue to turn her back on the refugees her actions help create.

I stand with Bernie Sanders because he stands with us.

back when I was studying Spanish.

For example, to get the accent over the e in también (if you're using windows) you have to hold down ALT and then hit 0233 on the number pad. The regular number keys will not work. The é will appear when you let go of the alt key.

é...yay, you just taught me a new one. I use alt 248 for ° but don't have a chart that shows all the combinations and what they produce. Anyone have a link to that?

Sorry for the thread drift.

I went to a school where we used things we called "pens" as input devices for a miraculous display system we called "paper" which - are you sitting down? - never needed charging. Alt codes were not needed, the pen interpreted easily-memorized hand motions.

(I kid. I love word processing.)

and pages were written here advising the US to leave Libya alone or they would turn it into a Failed State.
Libya was NOT having an "Arab Spring".
Libya was having a tribal Civil War, and Black Flag Al Qaeda were the ones we backed.
Now, instead of having the most advanced civilization liberalizing Women's rights,
we have another failed state imposing Sharia Law.

Hasn't the US realized that every time we "help" ME countries with our Freedom Bombs,
we ONLY make things worse.

...to Take Out the roadblock (Qaddafi) to the mineral wealth of North Africa.
Qaddafi, warts and all, believed that Africa belonged to Africans, and NOT the IMF or World Banks.
He used oil money to undercut the usurious "loans" that could never be paid back offered to poor countries by the IMF collateralized by that nation's natural resources.

” For all his dictatorial megalomania, Gaddafi is a committed pan-African - a fierce defender of African unity. Libya was not in debt to international bankers. It did not borrow cash from the International Monetary Fund for any "structural adjustment". It used oil money for social services - including the Great Man Made River project, and investment/aid to sub-Saharan countries. Its independent central bank was not manipulated by the Western financial system. All in all a very bad example for the developing world.”

All we want is a Dem/progressive win. Don't think those of us who support Hillary are against those who support Bernie. We just want a win.

I do have a question though, why do the repubs want to run against Bernie and not Hillary?

I think a better question is:

Why do we care what the republicans think?

Of more importance to me is supporting a candidate whose views best align with those that I endorse, and who has been consistent in his positions for several decades.

Your logic can be simplified as:

Ooh, republicans think we would be crazy to support Bernie, so we should listen to them

OK, you changed my mind - sure

Republicans prefer to run against Bernie because they think they will use the "Socialist" label against him effective use. What they don't know yet is that Bernie is creating a movement that is empowering people who don't usually get involved in the process to show up and volunteer. Huge amounts of young voters will turn out in the general election if Bernie were the nominee as well as people who previously felt left out and disillusioned with the process. He is capable of generating the enthusiasm that is needed to get high voter turnout, which is deadly to republicans.

I have spent my last second there. Too many elite liberals who know everything.
