Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI've been wearing my Bernie 2016 pin since Wednesday
And it has generated a LOT of conversation. I've gotten a big bunch of "yeah right on's" but...
It also has mad me think just how hard it is going to be, so many people don't even know him at all ("Who's that" "What is he running for?" etc) along with the "he's a commie, "a librul" and my very favorite, "He's from Vermont and that automatically make him crazy".
I am still trying to figure out how to answer the questions people have about him. But most people don't want to know much, there are so many low information people out there.
Gonna be interesting.

(19,326 posts)I saw this before you deleted it, and ironically -- at this point -- it's the key to Bernie
winning the Democratic Primary. Time is on Bernie's side. Hillary, not so much.

(3,569 posts)he will be able to get people to know him. And with time, we will see that HRC is "Them" and not really US.....

(41,177 posts)Like this? There are so many uneducated, uninformed and rabidly conservative people in the US now. And the Media is propaganda, controlled 90% by RW corps. who omit Bernie, or say negative things. I feel for you; have you located any other B. supporters in your area?

(3,569 posts)every day someone comes up to me to talk about Bernie. ( I also have a stumper bicker) A Supporter already. And they all say the same thing. That nobody knows anything about Bernie. Many do come up and ask me about him though, those that don't know anything about him.
Then there are my conservative friends (and I have many) who tell me "I'll vote for Bernie if you vote for Trump (every day someone tells me this) and all I say is "all I care about is that you inform yourself about what Bernie's positions are and I think you will agree with them". Of course they won't, but you gotta start chipping away.....

(18,791 posts)I mentioned him to a co-worker on the employee bus yesterday...I know that she leans left by some of the things we've talked about.
Bernie Sanders? Yes, she said...she knew who he is but was not intimate with him.
and then...BUT, HRC is the only one of Dems that can win.
Do you like her? Well...not so much but she's the best we've got (really, she said that!). I said...um, NO she's NOT!
So yes, there is a LOT of information that needs to get out there...I'm going to print out a couple pages for her as well as
a couple of others at work.
And that's exactly what we need to be doing.

(20,234 posts)Who is Bernie?
Basically Bernie wants to:
Get the money out of politics; overturn Citizen's United and Publically finance Federal Elections.
Raise the minimum wage to $15/hr.
Give EVERYONE MEDICARE
Make all state colleges Free.
Pass a CARBON TAX
Break up the Too Big to Fail banks
Make the economy work FOR the working people of this country
Create Millions of good paying jobs rebuilding our roads bridges water and sewers.
Print that on a card and hand it out to anyone who asks "Who is Bernie?"

(45,251 posts)Lots of information exists in this group, including in a pinned post by the late great Jackpine Radical, and in the Populist Group.
Look at purposefully and gather campaign acorns. Store them in your mind. Maybe even print out some stuff. Talking to people about whatever it is that genuinely excites you is likeliest to work, IMO.
I got "I love Bernie, but I'm afraid of another McGovern." And I responded to that with info I and others had posted in the Populist Group. Now, that woman is not only feeling the Bern, but spreading it to everyone she knows.
I had the advantages that she was (1) sincere; (2) intelligent; and (3) someone who would read and think. Also, that she is a friend to whom I could email links.
For a hit and run conversation on the grocery line, I might throw out Medicare for all and urge people to check out his facebook page and/or berniesanders.com. And google for the wiki of Democratic Leadership Council. I have Democratic friends and relatives who are politically aware but who nonetheless have never heard of it. Once they learn about it, they become populist Democrats on the spot.

(7,499 posts)Saturday, my husband and I stopped for lunch at an Applebee's in a KS town of about 15,000. The manager saw my husband's Bernie shirt and came over and asked where we got it. Apparently he and his girlfriend are supporting Bernie and are hoping to volunteer and help him in any way they can.
While we were visiting with him, one of the waitresses overheard the conversation, and came over. We mentioned that we have buttons, shirts, and bumper stickers on both cars. She was also excited about Bernie and asked if she could take a picture of the bumper sticker to put on her facebook page.
It's happening! Even here in red state Brownbackistan, people are feeling The Bern!!!
