(12,041 posts)Some parts of Wisconsin are deep red, but not Madison where the rally was held. Madison may well be more progressive than San Francisco, it is about as deep blue as you can get.
Your overall point is still correct however, Bernie is drawing crowds in red states, you probably just don't want to use Wisconsin as an example of that because the part of Wisconsin he was in is just as left as the left coast.

(32,906 posts)I know without a doubt it's not more liberal than San Francisco.

(12,041 posts)The reason Walker is in Wisconsin is because the Milwaukee suburbs and some outstate areas in Wisconsin are very red, but Madison is not Walker territory. Madison really is comparable to San Francisco in terms of progressive politics.

(36,063 posts)Without any understanding of voting patterns they assume it's homogenous geographically and between types of elections. Which of course it isn't at all. That's true for many midwestern states.
One of the peculiar things going on right now, is that Madison is doing exceeding well economically compared to the rest of the state.
How that will impact the primary is uncertain as democrats in the state have different experiences with 'the state of the state'.

(12,041 posts)It is in other ways a very right wing state unfortunately, it is a state that has elected some of the best Democrats but it has also elected some of the worst Republicans. It may well be the most polarized state in the nation which means that some years we see great victories there and other years we see horrible defeats.
I think 2016 is going to be a very good year for Wisconsin however, I think we are going to see a big comeback for Russ Feingold and I also think we are going to see the Bernie campaign do very well in Wisconsin. Wisconsin has a very strong progressive community and this is a year in which that community is going to be really fired up, with both Feingold and Bernie the base is going to be working very hard in the next year.

(36,063 posts)He's not creating a stay-at-home following, and WI primary turnout is low historically.
It's sort of the perfect state for a candidate that can get a push in turnout.
But, I don't expect the primary to still be competitive into April.

Let's poll a thousand people who answer their phone and are willing to take a poll, and then let's poll 20,000 people who made a whole day out of waiting in line for a speech!
