It’s been a great few weeks since the big organizing kickoff on July 29th! Supporters in every state are now doing the hard—and fun—work of building our 50-state, nationwide organization.

All across the country, people are organizing flyering and outreach events at farmer’s markets, county fairs, festivals, and ball games—and just on busy street corners in local downtowns. Through these vitally important outreach events, thousands of people will hear about Bernie for the first time—and many will sign up to join the movement themselves!

We can’t overstate how important these events are. Face-to-face conversations with local people are truly the best way to grow this movement—and also a fun way to build local teams that will do essential election work later on. Sign up for an event near you here, or post your own event.

Some of you are getting creative in your outreach! In Albuquerque, New Mexico, volunteers are going to chalk up sidewalks with pro-Bernie messages and art. On a highway overpass in Appleton, Wisconsin, volunteers will form a “light brigade” with an illuminated message in support of Bernie. People are organizing flash mobs to sing the volunteer-written “Ballad of Bernie” in Traverse City, Michigan. In Bushwick, Brooklyn, volunteers are silkscreening signs, t-shirts, and tote bags with all kinds of Bernie designs—with a DJ providing tunes in the background! And in Chicago, volunteers will be “BERNing up the Beaches” with information on Bernie for beachgoers.


Many, though not all, of these events are happening on Saturday. Over the next few weeks we’ll keep making every Saturday a big outreach day for Bernie. The plan is to grow our numbers, and our skills, by doing these fun and easy Saturday outreach events. Then later on, we’ll get to voter registration, building neighborhood teams, and preparing to get out the vote.

Let’s see how big and fast this thing can grow!

P.S. You may notice I did not bold the idea about doing something near a highway. If you do anything like that, be very careful, especially at night. Be very visible, don't get hurt and don't distract drivers.
