Bernie Sanders has jumped out to a nine-point lead over front-runner Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, and he's gained ground on her among Iowa voters in the Democratic presidential race, according to a pair of brand-new NBC News/Marist polls.
In New Hampshire, the Vermont senator gets the support of 41 percent of Democratic voters, Clinton gets 32 percent and Vice President Joe Biden gets 16 percent. No other Democratic candidate receives more than 1 percent.

As I recently posted elsewhere, no individual poll done now means much in the big scheme, but it's like weather and climate. You can detect trends in the polls, and we're in political climate change. Wherever Bernie goes, his numbers go up, Hillary's go down.

(14,733 posts)Taking Biden out of things doesn't automatically bump Hillary up, even though they overlap on the political spectrum. Benie actually took more than half of the 'Biden' voters when he's out of the picture, suggesting that Bidenites are split at best, but generally not interested in Hillary even if she is more ideologically like him.

Otto Pérez Molina, who resigned from the Guatemalan Presidency on Wednesday night, almost at the stroke of midnight, now sits as an ordinary accused criminal in Guatemalas Matamoros Prison, in Guatemala City. His arrest is the result of the Guatemalan Justice Department, working in close collaboration with the United Nations International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala, or CICIG, investigating a corruption scheme known as La Linea, in which the Guatemalan customs agency offered importers greatly reduced tariffs in exchange for kickbacks that were shared among dozens of government officials.

(17,064 posts)in NH Biden pulls an impressive 16% despite not having entered the race. Without Biden's 16%, Sanders picks up 8% and Clinton picks up 6%, increasing Sanders lead to 11%.
In Iowa Biden pulls a strong 20%. IDK how the #s break down without Biden.
In any case, it appears Sanders isn't losing any momentum, and Clinton's support is continuing to wane. IMO she's in real trouble in those first two states.

(5,400 posts)People talking to people is a very powerful tool. It being used to promote this campaign is part of the reason Senator Sanders is rising in the polls.
It's very difficult for the media to quantify that support so they are either mostly ignoring it, or just alluding to it. I see this as getting lots more attention when the media ramps its on the ground coverage of primary and caucus states.

(14,691 posts)a NYPD officer asked me who's Bernie - so, I started with "Sanders" and then briefly told him what he was about - at that time I offered him a flyer but he didn't take it - so I went back to work and he went back to scanning the Times Sq. crowd. Later we got talking again and I told him more; he said: I'm for all that too - and then he took a flyer.
P.S.: This officer also asked me if Bernie was a Republican (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I thought maybe he was kidding - you know that deadpan way of speaking that cops use. So I figured that was a fluke. A couple hours later someone else asked me if Bernie was a Republican!!! I told both of these people he's as far from a Republican as you can get. I wonder how many other people think he's a Republican.

(5,400 posts)Off Topic, but if Biden enters I'd love to see him go on a "panel" with O'Malley and Sanders and then we could see if DWS had the chutzpah to bar them all from the debates.
Be interesting to see if President Obama then gave her a call. Assuming her phone hadn't melted from all the other, outraged, calls.
Off Topic, yet somewhat related.

(14,174 posts)In fact IF she loses, it will be a sad day for everyone. But she had her chance. I remember admiring her for her push for a more social medical insurance plan when she was first lady. For her bold observation that there really was a " vast right wing conspiracy". For her standing by Bill when he made his mistake. Despite her past roles with Wallmart, I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt when she publicly said her Iraq vote was a mistake.
All she had to do was hold fast. To reject corporate donations, to give support to unions, to reject the TPP, and act like someone that still supports traditional Democratic values. To throw off her husbands "third way" approach realizing that the other side has no desire to fulfill their part in the triangulation. But she decided to go the easy route, work the triangle and theoretically skate above the wanna-be's and the also-rans, by appealing to enough of the moderate right, moderate left and assuming the liberal voters would, even if holding their noses, vote for the lesser of the two evils which would take her over the top no problem.
Then people started hearing an odd thing from an unassuming man called Bernie Sanders. The truth. And its all unraveling. But it does not mean I do not have sympathy for her if she does lose. She, and her husband went through hell, and she does deserve better.
