I have an idea. Let's replace "Take me out to the Ballgame" 7-the inning stretch with a Christian theocratic hymn.

That is a really great idea. Might as well have a fucking 7th Inning prayer, which it really is any time it is sung.

It is a horrible song.

I have an idea, let's celebrate 9-11 by singing about a theocracy. Or, let's not.

Sorry.

Plus, it really isn't a very good song for the 9-11 anniversary, given religious attacks on the USA and all that. (Which is precisely why the GOP has adopted it as their anthem and why 7th inning stretches suck these days.)

Or taken this some way other than the way you did.

Or gotten that every OP on a message board may not be one you would choose yourself. It's not as though I sent the Jehevoh's Witnesses to your door to try to convert you. Or even that I want to convert anyone.

You also could have written a less rude post. It's not the religious debate forum.

Or not found it necessary to post a second scolding of me in what is supposed to be a friendly group.

I actually used to enjoy posting daily to support Sanders and give some team spirit in the am, would have been utterly inappropriate today.

I, too, am passionate about separate of church and state, ffs. I just have never had a need to be a total pisant child about it.

BTW, maybe you should stick to worrying about separation of church and state in Canada. Because, if you think posting a patriotic song on 911 on a message board turns the US into a theocracy or has diddly at all to do with separation of church and state in the US, you don't know jack.

anyone on the defensive - and I'm not referring to the profanity either. I'm from NJ and "Fuck" is our state word. You could have responded with something like, "I'd have gone with a different song," and then suggested another tune. One alternative, just off the top of my head, would be "This Land is Your Land." It's patriotic without being jingoistic and fits well with the theme of Bernie's campaign.

However, I do have some passions. Like not liking the theocratic wing of the GOP, which as much as uses that horrible song as their national anthem. And yes, my metric is that it was never, ever sung in a baseball park until after 9/11! And then, for some strange reason, it was sung everywhere during the 7th inning stretch. Beer, Red Hots, peanuts, baseball, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, God Bless America. One of these just does not belong with the others. And we're supposed to STAND, too? Maybe the announcer should ask everybody to bow their heads and fold their hands as well? At the fucking baseball park! Like one isn't patriotic enough if one doesn't sing loud enough. Or religious enough.

Maybe we need more church everywhere. Especially in county clerk offices in addition to the baseball parks. And on 9/11, I might add. We need more religion there, too. Wait a minute... Maybe not.

Religion and politics is always a toxic mix. Even if one likes that song.
