Related: About this forumwhy do some people send emails instead of putting comments in the thread?
this has happened several times, only from hillary supporters.
not only do i not have time to deal with this, i prefer not to have private discussions in the corner when i would rather we all converse in a way thay everyone can participate.
i have some theories as to why this happens, but i was wondering if longer timers than me have had experience with this.

(14,733 posts)If you want to say something to one specific person, without dealing with all the drama or poutrage that might follow a public posting of a given comment, you use email. Sometimes you know something you want to say would draw pointless outrage from some tiny group onsite, and it's just too tiresome to deal with, and you don't have the energy to deal with it.

(14,733 posts)No, I would not email someone an attack of any sort on them. That sounds like a bad idea. Generally speaking, my emails were ones of agreement with other comments, often with my personal quibbles. If I feel someone is worthy of 'the other sort' of email, I just put them on full ignore instead.

perhaps it is time to think about doing that

(14,255 posts)I blocked the sender and displayed the mail. Which is what I will do with any others like that.
Maybe the Hillary supporters are wary of being alerted on, or think you will come to your senses with a "personal" touch. Maybe they figure that discussing whatever it it is in private will not bring out the refutation that would occur out in the open. If someone is telling you something privately, you may just accept it, when someone else could say oh, no, that is wrong, in the open.

(9,497 posts)They had gotten their 5th hide so they wanted to make sure I got their point. Even though I had known about this poster's habit before and did my best never to post to them. I had a good 95% on that...
You can alert or block or send them a message first then do one or both.
Or you can post their email here for us to read and see what is happening to us. Because, the H supporters don't believe it happens.
My received emails were just frothy and with misspelled words with a sentiment that even after thoughtful reflection, I didn't take as my own.
I did go to the OP and saw that they were removed, so I knew then they had been sent to the corner.
It is just frustration.

(12,655 posts)over the past few months, i would put them in one of two categories
1. argumentative to the point of being borderline harassment
2. extremely mocking of my support of sanders or how well he is doing
and again, always very vocal h supporters.
this latest one falls into category 2. I sent this person an email back saying that I do not wish to have private conversations and that anything they have to say to me in regard to something I put on a public thread, they are free to reply in the thread where I and others can comment on it. So far I have not received any more communication from them.

(19,326 posts)Don't mean to make light of your question, as I've had a few odd
PMs myself. Like saying "be careful .. Trump's with the Mafia.. "
like I was some kind of threat to The Donald. I didn't know what
to make of it.

(12,655 posts)i am just going to take the position that if it is something that really should be said in front of the group but the person just doesn't want to because they're afraid they'll either be alerted on or hit with a bunch of negative responses, then I'm just not gonna engage. It's one thing to just pass along some information or a quick message. I'm talking about attacks on our positions, which really should be conducted in the thread where everyone can comment on them.
ps love your sig line

(8,596 posts)Both were friendly, one was an expression of support, the other was a question that I didn't want to ask publicly. I have gotten one, and it was not friendly, from a member who was on a time out, and I think they were TS'ed at the same time I was alerting on the PM, which led me to believe I was not the only one PM'ed. I had then and now never exchanged comments with that member...hell, I hardly ever post, lol! That member has been reinstated, which is why I don't name them here, and I disagree with their reinstatement. That member is an ass, but yes, is also a supporter of Hillary's.

(12,655 posts)but in a good way
i went back to this latest email and clicked on the posters name, and a whole page came up including information about the fact that they are temporarily unable to post, which I guess means they're in a timeout, it also had information about comments of theirs that had been hidden by juries. I had no idea all this information was available to us. Even though I've been on and off the site for ten years, i guess i am quite a newb
at least it explains why this individual has sent PMs instead of putting the comment on the thread
Because they couldn't.
thanks guys!
ps is the standard operating practice for some people? To get themselves kicked off and then proceed to wage war through private messages? Certainly not the way I want to go about things.
