PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE Minutes after opening a new field office on the New Hampshire coast and firing up a crowd of local supporters, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) shuffled over to reporters with a grin replacing his usually gruff expression.
Were feeling really good about New Hampshire, he said. It kind of blows me away the number of people we have coming up, who are prepared to volunteer for the campaign. Were going to do well in New Hampshire and Iowa, and if we win those two states, I think well do quite well on Super Tuesday, and weve got a path to a victory. He chuckled, his lined face bathed in the light of several TV cameras. Welcome to the political revolution, guys.
Sanders has good reason to feel confident. For weeks, polls have shown him several points ahead of Hillary Clinton despite her almost universal name recognition. Hes also been drawing bigger crowds across the state. Among voters under 30 years old, his lead is even wider. This past Sunday night, his town hall at the University of New Hampshire in Durham drew about five times as many people as Hillary Clinton attracted to a forum at the same campus two days before.
A recent poll also found that New Hampshire voters view Sanders as more trustworthy, and more understanding of the needs of everyday people, though Clinton polled better on level of experience and the ability to win the general election. Another poll found Sanders dominating in voter enthusiasm, with 78 percent of his backers voicing enthusiastic support compared to Clintons 39 percent.

(5,069 posts)Maybe it's just my being in military intelligence too long - but I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist - I'm noticing something despite Sanders' overwhelming popularity in this state. There seems to be a focus on drugs in NH and this dovetails nicely with Hillary Clinton's early August visit to NH which focused on - drug problems.
There seems to be an orchestrated effort to play up drug issues in the press and in the statements by politicians (from Governor Hassan on down). Not that I don't believe that drugs are an important issue.....Hillary Clinton addressed this as one of her concerns when she campaigned in Keene in early August....Since then, I have seen countless stories in the press (evidence of problems to personal stories of successes or tragedies dealing with the issue). Then the Governor at the State Convention mentioned this as one of her concerns.....
Coincident with this attention has been my local newspaper's refusal to publish my lte in which I pointed out two issues with Clinton's campaign: she should know about the drug issues if she was running for President and especially given her husband's administration's record for escalating drug related incarcerations. (Local newspaper normally publishes every lte I've submitted and normal turn-around is days). Finally, there is this story on DU.

Anyway, I do not think that there is a worry that Sanders will take NH - but just passing this along as a matter of FYI and 'Let's be Careful Out There!'
