Bernie on the mass shooting in Oregon

"The American people are horrified by these never-ending mass shootings. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the innocent victims. As a nation, we must do everything we can to put an end to this awful epidemic of senseless slaughter.
We need a comprehensive approach. We need sensible gun-control legislation which prevents guns from being used by people who should not have them. We must greatly expand and improve our mental health capabilities so individuals and families can get the psychological help they need when they need it. We also have to tone down the incredibly high level of gratuitous violence which permeates our media.
The shouting at each other must end. The hard work of developing good policy must begin."

I refuse to even look at the disgusting "Bernie the gun nut" nonsense OPs that
have been appearing tonight.

It's just so pathetic. I have no words.

And thank you Bernie, for weighing in for sensible gun control measures, ones that
actually most gun owners support (but not the NRA nor the GOP Congress assholes,
measures that will definitely help stop these bloody senseless killings.

This has to stop.. this must be addressed meaningfully.

for victims & families & Roseberg community.

on tonight to tout Hill's gun control statement and negatively comment on Bernie 's vote against the Brady Bill and the gun maker's liability bill. She is going from Salon to The Nation. I hope Katrina VandenHuevel slaps some sense into her or assigns her the celebrity beat. More telling half the story from Weathervane's army.

We also have to tone down the incredibly high level of gratuitous violence which permeates our media.

Is he referring to the type of violence and fear hyping by media like Fox news? Or is he referring to all media sources who keep using stories of violence and bloodshed to excite viewers and build ratings?

Maybe he means both?

Is this a reference to violence in our movies and video games? Something I think, personally, we need to curb. We've become numb to the killing and maiming of life through our entertainment.

Fuck the fix and the bullshit they use to try to defeat Bernie.

My hope in the American people is lessened everyday by the "news" that the American people swallow hook, line and sinker.

However, I keep hearing about this sensible gun control law that will somehow stop these senseless murder sprees as if there was a law that could stop psychotic killers from murdering innocent people. I think a better approach would be to call for a hardening of school gun detection systems that has sound logic to it.

Do you?

I don't..... not from sensible people.

It's a fact that tighter gun laws mean less guns and less guns in everyone's hands and criminal hands and less gun crime, gun accidents and gun suicides. A bit of a barrier is of great help.... instead of just accepting that everybody and their grandmother must have a gun.

No one thinks it will "stop" it. Isn't it better to lessen it tho'?

I simply can't find the logic that says that making it harder to obtain guns will stop lawbreaking criminals who do not respect current laws from getting those guns. The logic would point to removing guns from society as the only rationale cure to this issue. However, confiscation and removing guns from people is never going to happen in America.

all incidence of gun deaths is a bogus argument, not unlike the republican argument that the Iran deal should be rejected because it doesn't solve all the problems in the middle east.
