Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumGot some interesting news today about the October 13 debate.
The word is out the DNC is HEAVILY stacking the debate audience with Hillary supporters. And remember, it's the DNC who deems who can be in the audience. And I'm guessing CNN has already decided that Hillary has "won" the debate.
Can I just say that I'm old enough to remember the last time The Party Establishment locked out dissenting voices -- Richard Nixon became our president.

I hope no one but she who shall not be named shows up after the first debate. Despite their stacked audience, Americans will get to hear what Bernie and Martin O'malley have to say.

Or hold one yourself and invite people.
Then we should send in pictures of all who attend and write our own news story and take our own polls on it.
Bernie and the other candidates will know that the reception for Hillary is rigged if the DNC rigs it. And hopefully they will mention how the debate audience was selected during the debates.
If they do, the next debate will have an audience that represents the diversity among the voters. Bernie drew another crowd that probably sets a record for this stage in the campaign.
Everybody loves Bernie. That's my impression.
Feel the Bern!
There is no arguing with the crowd sizes that Bernie draws. He has the grass-roots Democrats behind him.

(2,212 posts)To wit:
The first debate is scheduled for October 13, 2015, in Las Vegas. It will air on CNN, and will also be broadcast on radio by Westwood One. Anderson Cooper will be the moderator of the debate, with Dana Bash and Juan Carlos Lopez asking additional questions and Don Lemon presenting questions submitted by voters via Facebook.

(2,212 posts)This news of the DNC stacking the audience disgusts me. I'm a little encouraged to learn that Anderson Cooper will be the moderator. I like him and think there's a good chance he'll strive to be fair to Bernie.
On edit: I'll also add that I'm a little concerned by "debate performance hubris" on the part of the Bernie supporters on here. Hillary can perform well behind a podium. She's no pushover. I think this notion that the debates are going to be a slam-dunk is unrealistic.

Old Crow
(2,212 posts)Bernie's integrity has connected well with viewers in the past, and he can argue positions exceedingly well. He's amazingly consistent and I have no doubt he'll do a good job. Hillary's performance, on the other hand, is much more of a wildcard. At times, she does really well; other times, she's rigid and imperious. You can be sure I'll be watching the debates like a hawk.

(45,251 posts)Enough gratuituous shaming of Bernie's DU supporters goes on in other parts of the board, and often by people behaving a lot worse than most of us are. It's one of the reasons I spend the vast majority of my time in this group and, to a much lesser extent, in the Populist Group.
In this group, we are supposed to be supporting Bernie and each other. If you are going to import the shaming of Bernie's DU supporters intod this group, I would hope you would have an excellent reason for so doing that really matters and preferably one that really matters in real life.
Old Crow
(2,212 posts)... on what is and what isn't acceptable in the Bernie Sanders Group, seeing as this is the second time I seem to have rubbed you the wrong way.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you are of the opinion that nothing negative should ever be voiced about Bernie Sanders or his supporters in this safe haven. I understand the position.
My position--and I may be wrong here--is that some negative or critical statements are permissible provided that the poster is clearly in support of a Bernie Sanders presidency. One of the things I find repellant about the other camp on DU is that they seem to have gotten caught up in groupthink and a cult of personality. Everything is sunshine and rainbows in their group, 24/7, and if you sneeze in the wrong direction, you can expect to be banned quickly. I like to think Bernie Sanders supporters are more tolerant of dissenting views and, like Bernie, consider intelligent dialogue between parties who disagree important.
Permitting disagreement can be tricky, granted. There are, no doubt, some posters out there feigning concern regarding Sanders and his supporters as a way of propagating negative talking points. I am not one of them. If you'll search my posts, you'll find I want a Bernie Sanders presidency as much as anyone and consistently post to that effect. I've even put several hours into creating a couple graphics to promote his campaign.
Now, regarding my comment about "debate performance hubris": My concern has everything to do with managing expectations. I fully expect Bernie Sanders to perform better than Hillary Clinton in the debates. But I don't think Clinton will be a pushover, and if Sanders supporters set up the expectation that she will be crushed, the narrative in the media may hurt us. Should, for example, Bernie turn in an A- performance (using a lettergrade scale), and Hillary a B, he will have outperformed her, yet the media response could well be: "Well, no doubt the Bernie Sanders supporters are disappointed tonight because the resounding defeat of Hillary Clinton they'd been hoping for did not occur. Despite predictions that Clinton would not be able to hold her ground, she managed to do just that. Yadda yadda yadda." You get the idea.
Sorry to go on at such length.
If a host can advise me if my understanding of the rules of the Bernie Sanders Group is incorrect, I'll delete my "hubris" post swiftly and with no hard feelings.
Thanks!

If you are going to import the shaming of Bernie's DU supporters into this group, I would hope you would have an excellent reason for so doing that really matters and preferably one that really matters in real life.
The difference between what I actually said and what you suggest is my view seems very clear to me.
