http://www.forwardprogressives.com/i-used-to-be-a-conservative-now-im-all-in-for-bernie-sanders/Sanders appeal isnt relegated solely to young, socially liberal voters either. Quite a few older and even moderately conservative people, including rural voters, like him due to his pro-union stance and pragmatic approach to gun control. As a moderate-left independent who owns a number of weapons, I also appreciate his support for sensible gun regulations which take into consideration those of us who arent criminals or paranoid, anti-government fanatics.
Despite the angry squawking of corporate media and right-wing bloggers about socialism, there isnt really anything about Bernie Sanders that is extreme when you compare his platform to that of mainstream political parties in other developed nations like Norway or Germany, which are both very much democratic socialist countries.
Now if only I can convince my conservative family members who are in love with Bobby Jindal or Dr. Ben Carson and obsess over non-issues like Planned Parenthood to see the light as well. That would be nothing short of a miracle.

(8,879 posts)1. Thom Hartman (not sure if this is spelled right) said that these are Eisenhower Republicans.
He said Bernie consistently carries about 20% of the Republican vote in his state. He said something like "If you drive through the northern, red part of Vermont, you will often see Vote Bush signs along side of Vote Bernie signs. He said Bernie is a truth teller and that has won him the respect of the more sane Republican voters.

of the issues carrying 20% of the opposition party votes? We're talking landslide numbers here!

(3,396 posts)3. Jindal started campaigning for President as soon as he was elected
Governor 8 years ago and Louisiana has suffered horribly. If Jindal was elected he would make W look like FDR. He is detested in his own state and often referred to as Gov. Anywhere but Louisiana since he has spent more time in Iowa than Louisiana.
Good luck with your family!
