-snip-
For decades, mainstream U.S. news outlets have bent over backwards to appease conservatives and avoid the stigma liberal media, but there has been no similar accommodation for progressives, as Jeff Cohen notes about CNNs handling of the upcoming Democratic debate.
By Jeff Cohen
At the CNN-sponsored Republican Party debate last month at the Reagan presidential library, one of the three panelists CNN selected to question the candidates was conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, affiliated with the proudly right-wing Salem Radio Network. But at Tuesdays upcoming Democratic Party debate, CNN is not planning to include a single progressive advocate among its panel of four questioners.

(15,480 posts)Four shall be the number of third-way, MSM, anti-progressive panelists questioning the candidates. I sayeth four, no more, no less. Four shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be four. Five shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, nor three, excepting that thou then proceed to four. Five is right out. Once the number four, being the fourth number, be reached, then thou lobbest soft-ball, pre-approved questions to Hillary and gotcha questions to Bernie.
And then there are Hillary's typical requirements for speaking engagements, because those $250,000/$300,000 fees just aren't enough, ya know.
Clintons typical speaking contract, stipulations that often include a chartered private jet e.g., a Gulfstream 450 or larger jet; a presidential suite at hotels; and business- or first-class seats for aides to the potential 2016 presidential candidate.
Clintons speaking arrangements also usually include a $500 stipend for a traveling aide and funds for ground transportation and cellphone bills, among other pricey requirements.
Clinton typically charges $300,000. Beyond the expenses, the report also highlights other speaking requirements for the event, including that Clinton be the only person onstage during her remarks and have final approval of the moderator and the person doing the introduction.
The contract also emphasizes that the event should be closed to the press, unless otherwise agreed to in writing, and that any journalists in attendance as guests need to be cleared by the agency.

Re: her paid appearance at UCLA:
The documents show that Clintons representatives at the Harry Walker Agency exerted considerable control over her appearance and managed even the smallest details from requesting lemon wedges and water on stage to a computer, scanner, and a spread of hummus and crudité in the green room backstage.
Top university officials discussed at length the style and color of the executive armchairs Clinton and moderator Lynn Vavreck would sit in as they carried on a question-and-answer session, as well as the kind of pillows to be situated on each chair. Clintons representatives requested that the chairs be outfitted with two long, rectangular pillows and that two cushions be kept backstage in case the chair was too deep and she needed additional back support.
After a lengthy call with a Clinton representative, UCLA administrator Patricia Lippert reported to campus colleagues, She uses a lavalier [microphone] and will both speak from the audience and walk around stage, TED talk style. We need a teleprompter and 2-3 downstage scrolling monitors [for] her to read from.
During a walk-through of Royce Hall five days before the lecture, the e-mails show, Clintons team rejected the podium planned for her use during her 20- to 30-minute speech, setting off a scramble on campus to find a suitable podium and rent a new university seal to match.
