(41,833 posts)I like to use "Kochira koso"
It means, the same for you/me. for example!
Person A : "Presento, arigatou"
Person B : "Kochira Koso"
Person A : Thank you for the gift.
Person B : It was a pleasure for me to give it to you as it was a pleasure for you to receive it.

(45,251 posts)I am so very sorry that hate blinds people so much that they have to claim Asians don't vote. I am especially sorry that it happened on DU, "courtesy" of people who call themselves Democrats. I am ashamed on their behalf and apologize on their behalf.

(45,251 posts)Question: For Americans, this exchange would not be unusual or rude.
"Love you!"
"Love you more!"
Would it be inappropriate for a person of Japanese heritage?
yuiyoshida
(41,833 posts)in public. When they say "aishiteru" its rare. They may say
suki desu (I like you)
or
Daisuki desu. (I like you very much)
but rarely say
Aishiteru. American servicemen would some times think they can say "aishiteru" to Japanese girls, thinking they are being cute, but its more an insult. Japanese take love very seriously, and think Americans says " I love you" too much, making the word have less of a true meaning.

(45,251 posts)What if, though, the comment were "I like you more."
Or if the exchange were
"Happy to see you." and the reply were:
"Even happier to see you."
Would it be considered poor form for any reason, such as bragging or seeking to compete with or "top" the statement of the other person?

(41,833 posts)Happy to see you : Oaidekiteureshidesu!
Even Happier to see you: Kochira Koso!

(19,326 posts)it can create an echo-chamber effect. You can't blame them
for trying. It's not really lying their asses off, it's "just politics".
But I feel very fortunate to have a candidate who frowns on
such tactics.
Go Bernie!!

(5,856 posts)who proudly drives around with a Bernie bumper sticker in Hillary's state of New York! I have a black friend on Facebook who I am fairly certain will vote for Bernie. Also a black friend from college who will vote for Bernie. I just showed another black friend who likes to smoke 420 that clip with the black guy bugging out when Bernie said he would legalize pot. Slow and steady...

(111,290 posts)People who think any group forms a voting bloc with no exceptions are living in a fantasy world. Maybe they like fantasy. Maybe the only way they can cope with life is by pretending magic will keep it predictable.
Who knows? Just do what I do, give a derisive snort and move on.
yuiyoshida
(41,833 posts)"snort" they usually mean, it is funny. How do you do a derisive snort?
