Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI, for one, would like to hear more from, and about Jane Sanders.
No wiki page. Hey.... what's that about?
Accomplished woman and scholar in her own right. Where's the recognition?
I know it's (ABSOLUTELY!) not what the campaign is "about" ( personalities, reality show stuff, soap opera, etc.) .....and I AGREE with that..... but they *have* done a few interviews together and she's done one or two at least separately.
I think their family constellation is interesting. In many ways, prototypical Modern Family.... more so than not-so-funny but
all-too-popular sit-com.
Several early on marital trials until they found the "right" person. Like almost everyone I know who eventually finds the "right person". (Mr. "He'll Do" as some smart-alecky comedienne once quipped.) Melded family. Some bio kids... some non; but they've been together as a unit since 1988. That's impressive. To ME, anyway.
Interesting religious amalgam also. He's secular Jewish from Bklyn. She's Irish-American and apparently still practicing.... if I read Bernie's wiki page correctly.... Catholic. (Also from Bklyn, oddly enough. But she didn't meet Bernie 'til they were both Vermonters.) Apparently they've successfully reconciled these things in some way. How?
I think the campaign is making an assumption ( maybe they're right, I'm not sure) that exploring this aspect of the senator's life will be distracting and a net-minus.
My opinion is that it would humanize him and broaden his emotional appeal. A lot of people are dealing and have dealt w. the family and personal issues that the Jane and Bernie unit have dealt with... and continue to deal with.
Bernie's right that our elections are generally decided by superficial, stupid stuff. OTOH... there's is in fact an emotional element involved in people's voting behavior. IMO, he's right about virtually everything, on an intellectual level. And people DO like him, obviously as a person. (He gets as many votes from republicans in VT than many republican nominees.... or pretty close.)
But I think unleashing ( i.e. putting her "out there", as it were.) Jane O'Meara Driscoll Sanders could clinch it for him. From what little I've seen, the voters will eat her up. ( i.e. in a good way.)
Thoughts?

I'm not sure what I hope myself .
If you do, do me a favor: clue me in.

(7,300 posts)I'm confident that as Sen Sanders continues to expand his base that attacks on him will expand to his family as his record is so consistent.
On edit: Forgot to address what I think you want: I agree with your OP. She'll be First Lady and offers a great contrast to our Potential First "Dude". Barf. I hate that term and don't care for the man that would be one.

(14,498 posts).... just the general protective instinct one has toward the family, esp children: keep 'em out of harm's way.
I'm just saying: she ( Jane) appears to be a .... so far.... underused resource.
They should USE her. ( IF they can.) She's pretty cool.
