A post from Daily Kos

http://m.dailykos.com/story/2015/11/9/1447657/-Bernie-Sanders-A-View-From-Texas

You know the story. Polls are giving Hillary Clinton a huge advantage over Bernie Sanders. On Daily Kos, Hillary Clinton is catching up to Bernie in Kos’ straw polls. The vast majority of endorsements are going to Hillary Clinton. The media… well, to be frank the media minimizes, subtly mocks and downplays Bernie Sanders seriousness as a candidate. The general consensus seems to be that Bernie Sanders has hit his ceiling.
I’m not worried and I would like to share why.
I have never seen a campaign like Bernie Sanders ever before.

My first Bernie Sanders campaign event was when he came to Dallas in July. I contacted the BernieSanders.com website several times offering to volunteer and heard nothing but was still planning to attend. Two days before the event I got a call from Laura N., a campaign staffer – they were swamped with volunteers she said, would I be interested in being a team leader at the event? Sure, no problem. So myself and about 12 new friends became team leaders. We were trained the night before the event.
The morning of the event we met the other 80 or so volunteers. Training them was fast because the crowds were coming. I helped run the clipboard team and was really, really impressed with the 20 or so people who worked to get information from attendees.

Turnout was – well, nuts. The main room held 5,000 so we know that many showed up. But the spillover room would hold another 5,000 and was what, 1/3 to ½ full? So 6,000 to 7,000 showed up?
The Bernie campaign had 1, count ‘em, 1 paid staffer at the event. And a consultant. That’s it. Two people on payroll for the whole event. EVERY OTHER PERSON RUNNING THE EVENT WAS A VOLUNTEER.

Fast forward to August – Bernie has made the decision not to pay the fee to get on the Democratic Primary Ballot in Texas. He’s going to get on the ballot by getting the signatures of interested voters. If he succeeds, he will be the first Presidential candidate to do so since 1984 when Jesse Jackson did so.
But why? Why do it the hard way? Much to everyone’s surprise, money has not been an issue for the Sanders campaign at all.
It is a strategic decision. My experience gathering petitions is that for every signature I got, I talked to three other people who did not know who Bernie Sanders was. We’re targeting events which would generally have a receptive audience: Pride parades, Democratic club meetings, farmers markets, etc.
We’re evangelizing. We are spreading the word in the most effective way possible: human to human.

Here is my first reaction as I kept reading,

Now there is some motivation for us!

And despite what the MSM, DWS and her Entrenched Establishment Croonies, and the Bots say...

Bernie has huge support.

It was my friend's first political rally.

Bernie had to move the original venue. He thought he was going to be able to use a typical conference room that holds a few hundred max. Despite this being on a Friday morning between 9 and 10 it still had about 750 people attend.

but sanders sure is a phenomenon.
chomsky said recently in an interview that the key was to turn it into a progressive movement which had staying power beyond the election.
clearly he hasn't been listening v carefullly to bernie's speeches.
haven't been able to attend many events due to health and other commitments, but it seems like a nice group of people who are supporting him here locally. can't say as much for the organizers who come off a bit aloof and even condescending.

I used to live in the Dallas area, and news that Bernie has such a large and active grassroots organization there is remarkable and exciting!

I know my gut is not scientific by any means, but my gut tells me that Bernie has much more support than is reflected in the current polls.

Whatever happens he's started a Foundation. It will be bigger than what Howard Dean and Dennis Kucinich tried to do....but, one day........Wait and See!

He has so many obstacles against him....but "TRUTH WILL OUT!":

He will have to draw even more people to his events, and then he will have to convince more people in the next debate that he is the one that we should elect to be in the White House in 2017.
I think Bernie will draw more people to his events in the next month because of his great performance in the last debate.
So, by Christmas, a lot more people will know what he stands for, and how he wants to proceed.
People will get more serious about the election towards the end of the year and many of more of them will begin to pay attention to the race.

week with 7-8 thousand (capacity full). The thing is, they are so low information and tired of the corruption of Washington that it was relatively easy to switch them to Bernie! Once you showed them how Bernie helps them more and has real policies to eliminate most of the corruption (Publicly Funded Elections) they get excited. Trump supporters are the easiest to convert!

Bernie, there are still SO MANY people out there who haven't even heard of Bernie Sanders or may have only heard his name mentioned in the abstract. That is especially evident when you look at states outside of IA and NH. Person-to-person contact with those people will be critical in getting Bernie across the finish line. The bad news is that we have a lot of work to do to get people informed about him in time for the primaries. The good news is that there is still so much room for growth in Bernie's support and if we get out there and make it happen, he will win. Don't let the polls fool you demotivate you!

that so many people still have never even heard of Bernie Sanders. Do these people live under rocks? Do they go out of their way to stay uninformed?

The goal of a well-informed populace is light-years away, and it's about the same year after year after year.

Talking to people really does help.

meet and what time they have they spend doing family things. They truly do not have time that they spend getting informed. They might listen to local news which does little to inform and don't forget - MSM does not really inform either.
