Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forummy podcasts, online pub and social media -- how to stay in touch for those taking leave
Since I don't know how to stay in contact with the people I've come to know and love through this portal, I'd like to help folks to find me.
Everyone comes to these forums from different places. I came here as a writer who was looking for smart and caring people to "jam" ideas with. Writers are like musicians. If we don't practice, we lose our craft. As thinkers, often we don't even know what we think until we start writing and bouncing ideas off each other. The work we do here is important. Feel good about that, and let the rest of it die on the vine.
I believe that now more than ever it's important to find your people; to support you people and to cultivate your people. That's why I want to reach out to anyone who wants to stay in touch. But also, I want to encourage everyone to take your work to the next level.
As Bernie indicated in his Georgetown speech, we have a power structure that's built around inequality. It's not going to change with sideways glances. Or, by telling Wall Street crooks to "cut it out," for that matter. That's why we need everyone doing their thing at top performance. That means, if you are able to extend your reach and create something new and BIG do it! Now is the time. That means, likewise, if you have to take leave to protect your health, do it. You can't perform at your best if you're stressed out about silly crap. I don't mourn for the folks who are leaving. I know they have better things they want to do
Anyway...I love all you guys here. If you're taking leave, and if you're not please consider keeping in touch with me:
I just started a new podcast through the The Florida Squeeze, in collaboration with RabbleTV this airs Tuesday nights at 7:30pm, and can be downloaded anytime. The podcast, like the blog, follows a history, mechanics, cultural criticism model. My partner Kartik knows the history of politics in Florida and nationally (he's a knowledge monster, really). Katy brings the mechanics of political work to the discussion: how things work, why they work, why they fail. I try to keep up with my brand of cultural criticism. We usually spend half our time on national issues, and half on Florida stuff. And as we all know, the Florida stuff all too often impacts the national stuff.
My regular gig has been every Sunday night around 7-ish on Progressive News Network, as the Senior Political Correspondent, on a segment we call The Nitty Gritty the whole show is downloadable. This pod is freeform talk about what happened this week, and how it fits into the grand scheme of things. The show's producer does an amazing job of bringing guests on to discuss issues of particular interest to activists. This is a guest-oriented show, so my segment is just 15 minutes and then he's off to do interviews with authors, lawmakers and other interesting cats. I love this show. Environment, social justice, and the arts all find their place on PNN.
Finally, I write frequently at the aforementioned Florida Squeeze, which I sometimes post here at DU.
In my bio at the bottom of every column, there's more contact info where you can find more info on how to follow me on social media, I'm @nashville_brook on Twiitter. Duh.
