(2,382 posts)... never left. Her malignant influence still ripples over the swamp of malice that spawned the likes of Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, ad nauseam.
I met that evil bitch back in '68, I think it was. My bosses were big Objectivists, so I had to read all her crap, and attend a talk she gave in which she called working people "parasites" more times than I could count, and railed against the evils of altruism. I followed Russ and Bob back stage to watch her harangue and insult everyone within earshot.
Her book, "The Virtue of Selfishness" clinched my contempt for that woman, and it burns even hotter now than it did 47 years ago.

(14,177 posts)so, what do you expect. She was also vain for no apparent reason. Not to mention she was on the dole I think in her last couple of months. When she died the earth cried, because it knew she would be buried in it soon.

(14,177 posts)There are a whole lot of insincere people in the world. Some of them just don't know which is odd, because well if you admire someone you read up on them, but these are Republicons we are talking about. And there are other's that secretly admire her for all the horrible things she was.

(265 posts)William Edward Hickman. He kidnapped and murdered 12 year old Marion Parker in 1927. He was hanged in 1928 for the murder; Ayn Rand attended his criminal trial as a budding young author and used him as a character study as the hero in her future novels.
She wrote in her diary:"Other people do not exist for him, and he does not see why they should, [He] had no regard whatsoever for all that society holds sacred, and with a consciousness all his own. He has the true, innate psychology of a Superman. He can never realize and feel other people."
And when the State of California hanged him, she also wrote that "The mobs murderous desire to revenge its hurt vanity against the man who dared to be alone.
Don't take my word for it; read all about William Hickman here:

Plus the fact that she collected Social Security benefits due to her disability from lung cancer. Seems that she smoked like a chimney; you almost always saw her with a cigarette in her hand. She had claimed that her willpower would not allow her to get cancer. Well, the final scoreboard says: Cancer-1 Ayn Rand-0.

(265 posts)Ayn Rand ultimately was a hypocrite inasmuch as her personal philosophy. If you really want to admire somebody along Libertarian lines, you would be far better off with Rose Wilder Lane, daughter of Laura Ingalls Wilder of "Little House on The Prairie" fame and Isabel Paterson.
