What to Know About 'BernieCare,' Sanders' Health Overhaul

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR, ASSOCIATED PRESS

The most ambitious "repeal and replace" health care plan from a presidential candidate comes from Sen. Bernie Sanders, not from a Republican.

The Vermont independent who's seeking the Democratic nomination has been chastised by front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton for espousing an all-inclusive, government-run system.

It's called the "single-payer" plan, loosely modeled on how health care is financed in Canada and most of Western Europe.

Basically it means putting almost all the $3.2 trillion-a-year U.S. health care system in the hands of the federal government, with states acting as administrative subcontractors.

Currently, government at all levels pays about half of the nation's health care bill.

Aside from the usual 'can't happen here' stuff, some interesting information. And screw HRC's lies.

existing programs such as medicare and medicaid. Don''t fall for the bullshit repeated here that you will have "huge premiums" or "massive tax increases" or that somehow the working poor will not be able to afford the minimal taxes levied on workers. Working people and responsible corporations will see their healthcare costs GO DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY.

No deductibles. No copays. No premiums. Birth to death coverage for all standard medical services including long term care, mental health, addiction rehabilitation, reproductive health care - everything. Your doctors you choose to see. Your work wants to offer a health plan program? - that's fine, it is in addition to this plan and can provide benefits not covered (e.g. private rooms.)

That anyone here thinks this is a bad idea is amazing.

5. I had a friend of mine from England explain to me that half the price of the coke

was health care because healthcare is built in by every company along the way.

It went like this.

The aluminum company had to mark up the price of the bauxite to cover its healthcare costs.

Transport company had to mark up the price of the bauxite it purchased and add in its transportation costs and its healthcare costs.

The smelter had to markup what it paid the transport company and add in its manufacturing and healthcare costs.

The company that received the sheets of rolled aluminum from the smelter had to markup what it cost and add in the manufacturing and healthcare costs.

The bottler had to add in a markup for the cans and add in the cost of the manufacturing the bottled drink and its labor costs to the final wholesale price.

So the price of healthcare has been marked up so many times by the time you buy the coke it is close to 50% of the price.

My friend told me that since in England since health care is a one time charge and the businesses don't have to provide health care, it doesn't come to play with their prices.

I don't know how much is true about this as he told me this back in 1990. But it seems like a good description.
