Working Families Party Endorses Bernie Sanders for President

The Working Families Party, the labor-aligned third party that originated in New York City and has sought to become a national force, is endorsing Senator Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton, according to one of the groups founders.
The endorsement is the first in a national race for the party, which is now in almost a dozen other states and which is trying to leave its mark on progressive politics at a moment when income inequality is a major focus of discussion.
But the endorsement is notable in part because of the partys ties to Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City who, after months of hedging, recently endorsed Mrs. Clinton. Mr. de Blasio managed Mrs. Clintons successful run for the United States Senate from New York in 2000.
In an interview, Dan Cantor, who helped found the party, called the endorsement of Mr. Sanders a big moment for us. He said the partys members overwhelmingly supported Mr. Sanders in an online vote. He declined to specify how many people voted.
