Based on polling post previous debates, I think it is reasonable to say that HRC got the best bump out of the first one while Bernie held his support. With Biden dropping out back then that support actually split between Bernie and HRC, so HRC honestly had a net gain. The second debate, it is easy for me to say that Bernie won, it has slowly helped him bridge the gap in Iowa, although the Bernie ground effort there is what is really fueling his campaign.
It will be high stakes for both as I think HRC's internals are giving her some heartburn, especially when you factor some reality into polling and consider first time voters in the 18 to 22 age group, as well as those Indies that have been signing up D for Bernie. Her lead in the IA polls is surely closing. It may or may not be closing fast enough for Bernie to win IA, but I suspect that given the state of things right now, he would be within 5% points.
That is where debates can change things dramatically. While, I think Bernie is a pretty damn good lock in NH, this debate may influence those still on the fence re the IA Caucuses as well as begin to close some gaps in SC IF they speak about BLM.
It is also the LAST one, so this snap shot is very important.
Should be the best, most substantive debate of the Primary season and it will stand in stark contrast for what will surely be a clown car-train wreck tonight.
It could also heavily influence one individual that could be a TOTAL game changer for Bernie, Sen. Elizabeth Warren who I hope will endorse him after this debate. I also think Bernie is very close to getting the BLM endorsement, he has been responding to this group well on social media, made some revisions to his platform post-Baltimore visit and is showing a TON of well deserved respect for what this important movement stands for...a movement which IS the Civil Rights Struggle of OUR (well YOUR generation, I have a bit of mileage on me and was around for MLK)
Not watching tonight, but definitely watching this one. This one is a BFD.
