Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumWhat's the plan to get millennials to the polls?
Bernie has a chance to win the nomination and the general ONLY if young Americans vote in big numbers - HUGE numbers, if we're going to beat Trump.
I probably should have started this thread here today instead of in the primaries section:

In any case, have any of you heard of a plan - parties, some digital event, whatever - to get people who follow Bernie online to actually vote in primaries and in the general? I hope some creative twenty-something comes up with a plan that will resonate with this digital generation - I doubt that the old ways will do it.

But seriously though, I have a feeling there won't be a problem.

(10,345 posts)Here's why.
It's the young and disenfranchised that got Obama the win last time.
They watched what happens when you put forth the effort to elect a president, but don't put forth the same effort on the local level.
We ended up with a house full of Republicans that won't allow our Democratic president to succeed.
I'm certain that my entire generation has picked up on this mistake, and they are ready to do the right thing this time.

(37,152 posts)Even the most politically active millennials I know (in NYC and San Francisco) say that, while their friends think Bernie is great and follow him online, probably less than half will vote.

(47,953 posts)And other social media driven events. Make voting a social event and they will come out in force. The bigger issue is being registered, especially in the red states. Hope people are working hard on getting that part clear to Bernie voters.

(11,546 posts)A couple of months ago, my 25 year old daughter comes to me and asks "mom - have you heard of Bernie Sanders??" I laughed, not AT her but that this subject was coming FROM her. I told her that I have been supporting the Senator for about 8 years now, even though I live on the opposite side of the country from him. She giggled and we had a great discussion about him, his values, beliefs and our own. It turns out that she found out about him on FB and from her friends. They are ALL big Bernie supporters! This is about 15-20 20-something-year-olds. So now on my FB I am friends with all of these young people and they are constantly posting about Bernie. They are actually informing their parents about Bernie. I know that my daughter's boyfriend's mom is now a Bernie supporter because of him. I LOVE it!
I am hoping that other millenials are getting on the Bernie train. I'm thinking that we SHOULD have had debate parties but we can still reach out to other people and maybe take part in getting the word out to other young people and having pre-primary parties. We live in California so I know that there will be a big get-out-the-vote things here before the primaries.

(37,152 posts)I think it could - if they design their own ways to do it.
