--discussing the New Deal understood in part as a power struggle between the Southern churches (to whom people might be expected to turn in times of crisis, such as The Depression) and FDR, whose New Deal suggested that government ("of, by, and for the people" be the source of support.
It's instructive against the contemporary GOP refrain about shrinking government, gutting of social support systems, etc.
