Bernie Sanders likes to wear suits, but not the kind you would expect from a congressman... (Original Post) Playinghardball Jan 2016 OP
Somehow, I don't think he really "likes wearing suits." immoderate Jan 2016 #1

just more in the "this is how a respectable business person dresses" way, than the "I'm a peacock who spends more on a single pair of shoes than most of you take home in a month."

More just as a general observation as a west-coaster who used to make regular business trips to the NE, and quickly noticed that suits and ties are much more the rule than the exception.

So is he more the khakis and white sneakers type? I figured that to be more of an affliction of the retiree crowd here. But then it's not like they were all born here either.

I don't think he makes any sartorial decisions. In his business attire, he is tasteful, but awesomely conventional. As mayor of Burlington, he never wore a tie. He wore suits when he started congress. But I don't think that occupies his consciousness.

Macy's has decent suits.

macys clothes, coach and motel 6. I love this man. He knows what matters. I can imagine having holocaust survivors for parents helps get what's important straight.

I love that he knows how to stretch a dollar. It used to drive me nuts hearing about how Hillary was so good at fundraising, but they never talk about spending. Then you go to a site like Huffpo and see 20 ads for Hillary on a page. Huge waste of money. If I were supporting her, I'd be pissed (to see her campaign being so lazy, pissing away my money like that).

Other side of the coin is an admiration for those who can "eliminate all the little things" to help them stay so focused on the big stuff! Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and even Pres Obama:

Michael Lewis wrote in a recent Vanity Fair article:

You also need to remove from your life the day-to-day problems that absorb most people for meaningful parts of their day. “You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,” [Obama] said. “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make.” He mentioned research that shows the simple act of making decisions degrades one’s ability to make further decisions.
