Chinese bombers practicing Guam attack

The People's Republic of China is practicing attacks on Guam, according to U.S. officials speaking to media about rising threats from the island's westward Asian neighbor.

The Defense News, in an article published Tuesday, stated that Chinese H-6K "Badger" bombers are testing defense zones around Guam. The bombers are armed with 1,000-mile range air-launched cruise missiles and make "not infrequent" flights within range of the island, Defense News stated, quoting U.S. officials.

"The vast majority of the flights occur without an incident, such as a report of unsafe flying, for example. The officials said they follow U.S. Pacific Command guidance on how to respond in those events, so they do not further escalate," the outlet added.

Gen. Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly stated that China is the long-term challenge in the region despite the consistent tensions between the U.S. and North Korea. Dunford is quoted as saying that North Korea was viewed as “a fight we can win,” while expressing caution on how matters were proceeding with China.
