Kirsten Gillibrand in Dallas: 'I have to fight for every family as if it were my own'

Looking for campaign cash and support on Julian Castro's and Beto O'Rourke's home turf, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said Wednesday that she was the best choice to beat Donald Trump and in the process help curb systemic racism in America.

Gillibrand also said her ability to win elections in Republican areas and being a mother helps make her the ideal choice to battle Trump in 2020, and deal with issues like health care, education, jobs and criminal justice reform - all that have been exacerbated by bias and racism.

"That perspective of being a mother has really informed who I'm fighting for and why," Gillibrand said after speaking to students at Paul Quinn College in southern Dallas. "I will fight for other people's children and their families and their communities as hard as I would fight for my own."

"When I see how our law enforcement and our criminal justice system works against communities of color, I imagine it happening to my own sons. When I see that educational opportunities aren't the same and the amount of student debt that particular communities of color kids of color have to face, I would to change that as if I was changing it for my own family."

Paul Quinn College is a HBCU so Gillibrand spoke on a relatable topic.

Harris has shown that's her pattern, now. She makes rash judgments w/o knowing the facts and/or it being out of her jurisdiction. Franken, Northam, Smollet. Egg on face. She just says whatever she thinks is politically helpful for her. Which is pretty much what they all did.

Allegations against a fellow Senator. None of the allegations concerned any crime. They were, at most, inappropriate jokes. If that. Gillibrand and others didn't even talk to the women. The allegations were never even sworn to. It was a cruel killing of a fellow Senator's political career for a variety of reasons. But certainly not because of allegations of sexual crimes. Because those did not exist.

When McConnell jumps on your bandwagon to kill a fellow Senator, you oughtta stop and think twice. But nope. She didn't. Neither did Harris.

Do we say goodbye to them too? Bernie did not lead the charge on ousting Franken without due procesd, like KG did... but, he's out in front on those other issues I mentioned. He should be lauded for that, showing leadership when it is needed most... but, not holdin' my breath.

If your position is that calling on Franken to resign was an unforgiveable sin (nb: I don't), then he was either 1) culpable, 2) duped, or 3) cowardly, none of which suggest Presidential timber. As for "showing leadership" on your other issues, I'm not aware of any. Perhaps you could enlighten us? Speeches and Bills that never pass aren't really a sterling set of accomplishments.

She doesn't have any support.

But that's not a surprise in the wake of Franken. I don't hold that against her, since Franken is responsible for his own bad behavior. But I know a lot of people consider her comments on Franklin an unpardonable sin.

To me, she comes across as forced when out on the stump. I think having a big dem primary field is good since it allows us to draw contrasts. It will get winnowed down fast.
