Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI think Biden or Sanders are both great, but neither one will be the last one standing,
IMO, because by the end of the day, and after the debates get started, the voters will be thirsting for a fresh face to lead them to victory in 2020.
Bernie Sanders is one of my favorite progressive voices ever, but his journey is getting a little old and is losing some of its magic. He isn't going to be nearly as effective as that fresh new voice anymore.
Joe Biden has the experience and the charm. At the same token, I think much of his high polling has been due the fact that he was unnannounced for so long. That and the obvious name recognition and his close association with someone who goes by the name of Barack Obama have given him the initial boost in the polls that isn't going to last. Had Joe announced right from the start, I believe he'd only be polling in the middle of the pack by now.
Unless someone new jumps in like Adam Schiff or Andrew Gillum, I predict that the winner will be either Kamala Harris or Beto O'Rourke, not just because of their intensity and their views on the issues, but because of their charisma as a campaigner, which is going to grab voters by the heart once the debates begin. Two other candidates who I think could rise dramatically in the polls, once we get to hear more of them, are Cory Booker and Eric Swalwell.
Despite the fact that my opinion is nothing more than an opinion, I am sure of one thing: I am absolutely confident that, with only a handful of exceptions (such as Kirsten Gillibrand for starters), almost every one of our other candidates can beat Trump despite what any polls might ever say about it. Bottom line, we are going to have a Democratic president in 2020....that is, as long as we don't somehow snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, as they say.

(102,285 posts)I think those monitoring every poll for "reveals" are going to be driving themselves crazy. They are volatile and pretty damned meaningless this far out.

(102,285 posts)Today's Beto might be tomorrows' Harris and in the end, it is possible that the DEM electorate will, instead seek what they perceive to be the safest choice--whoever that might be.
