(2,771 posts)I doubt he will dominate this cycle because of his office and lack of name recognition, but I hope he runs for another office and stays in our politics for a long time. Hes a keeper.

(5,737 posts)He is obviously extremely intelligent and also seems to be quite capable. I would be concerned that his rhetoric might, unfortunately, go right past a lot of people. He needs to work on presenting a simple message.

(8,020 posts)to our roots, what made us unique, a time long ago when we never, ever thought about cutting safety nets, when we never, ever took the side of wall street banksters over the peoples needs and where we never, ever take use anything from the fascists playbook.

(8,020 posts)when we experienced a huge growth of our middle class and labor unions, when you could live off one pay check per household, had enough money & time to take vacations, wasn't saddled with massive college debt & weren't fighting fascists at every turn. The younger generation doesn't know how many great things were destroyed in this country & that the present mess is not the norm.

(32,640 posts)When woman and POC are eliminated from even applying for those well paying jobs, then it sure seems like an economic renaissance, for those who benefitted from that social injustice, doesn't it?
How many women working in good factory jobs got to keep them when men came home from WW2?
How many women and POC got to take advantage of the GI bill for college?
How many garbage men in the south got enough money and time off to take vacations?
Maybe the fact that the 70's was when the labor force was opened up to those previously discriminated against.
And maybe you aren't aware that most married women in the 50's and the 60's worked for extra money especially when their youngest child started school. They took in ironing, sold Tupperware, Sarah Coventry Jewelry, watched kids for their neighbors and other paying work. But those jobs weren't considered interesting or desirable to men, so they were ignored - especially in terms of the husband's ego for not being the sole provider.
The myth of the golden age of the 50's ignores the dark realities that made it so such a "renaissance" for the chosen few.

(1,736 posts)There's plenty of ageism directed at younger generations. Lots of ineffective policymaking that has left the cupboard bare for those coming behind us. Time for a correction, he's right.

(11,267 posts)and I agree with him - the emotional argument for a better world where people don't get screwed by the GOP is intensely powerful. We should use it (and stop keeping our powder dry)
