Candidate overload?

We have 13 declared candidates not including John Hickenlooper. He's set to make his announcement on Thursday. Hell, the guy from WV dropped out already. There's still another 13 that have expressed interest like Beto, Biden, Holder etc.

Since most have rightfully shunned PAC or corporate money. A lot of small donor are going to be financially be tapped out before we get to debates.

Also how many positions or policies can we have on any one issue? The given media barely cover issue campaigns to begin with.

I'm starting to worry that we won't have enough resources and energy for the general election.

So my question is how many candidates do you want to see in a primary? When is it too many for you twenty, thirty, or even fifty? Just wondering if my worries are unfounded.

1. It would be nice if enough drop out before the first debate to get us down to 10.

Each debate will be on 2 consecutive nights.

With 10, we could have 5 on one night and 5 on the next night.

A debate with more than 5 candidates is kind of ridiculous.

3. It's stupid, but so is the current primary system

Right now, candidates are focusing their time on the relatively small states of Iowa and New Hampshire. Over 80% of the candidates will likely be gone after those two races, but in the meantime, we will have debate fatigue and why-did-my-candidate-deserve-to-be-at-the-kids-table debate fatigue.

I'll repeat myself from prior posts: three-tier national primary: Round 1 in February eliminates all but the top 5; Round 2 in April gets down to the top 2; Round 3 picks the winner. All states vote on the same day. This Iowa and NH go first nonsense needs to end.

6. Not overwhelmed by quantity. But overwhelmed that these folks will do very little but campaign for..

almost 2 full years. Many of whom were elected to be spending that time working on issues in their states.

Not blaming them personally, but hate that our system requires candidates to virtually ignore their elected duties for a multi-year period. What is the point of even running for your seat if you know you're not actually going to do the job?

9. What we should all be worrying about is
Sat Mar 2, 2019, 05:09 PM

whether the supporters of all the various candidates will focus their loyalty on America, and set aside their deeply held positions and support the Democratic nominee, even if that nominee does not exactly mirror their own positions.

The stakes are too high for any of us to adopt a rigidly purist mindset.

...I'm guessing we'll be down to no more than ten. By the time we get to Nevada, maybe half a dozen. 3 or 4 at most after Super Tuesday.

We may have our nominee after March 17.
