Booker hits Warren over proposal to break up tech giants

Politico

Cory Booker swatted at his Senate colleague and fellow 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren for her call to break up some of the country’s most powerful technology companies — bashing the proposal as not befitting a president and sounding “more like a Donald Trump thing to say.”

In an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl that aired Sunday on “This Week,“ the New Jersey Democrat bemoaned the “really ill effects” of “corporate consolidation” in America and pledged if elected to the White House to call for Justice Department investigations and antitrust laws to rein in monopolies.

But Booker said he disagreed with the plan by Warren (D-Mass.) to create “a level playing field” by splintering giant tech firms, including Amazon, Facebook and Google, which she has accused of unfair competition and “eating up” startups.

“I don't think that a president should be running around pointing at companies and saying breaking them up without any kind of process here,” Booker said.

Including, I'm sure, Justice Department investigations and enforcement of antitrust laws to rein in monopolies. But right not there is no process, nor antitrust enforcement, because DOJ is run by Trump's new Roy Cohn, William Barr.

But I am glad to hear that you agree with Elizabeth, to the extent you acknowledge the “really ill effects” of “corporate consolidation.”

....he was discussing the overall issue of large corporations consolidating, and that he would do something about that.

Here's the entire interview, this issue starts at about 18:30

Opening an dialogue/ having a discussion on significant issues is what we’ll functioning political parties do and the most (small d) democratic venue for competing propsals are primaries.

It’s ironimic that those who tolerate no dissent are the dissenters themselves. Warren has been criticised for not handcuffing herself to Sanders Single Payer.

I’m with her in principal, but don’t understand the details when she talks about it.

IMHO:

Google - separate search/advertising and mobile assets
Amazon - separate the retail/commerce side from cloud services
Facebook - can we just get rid of it?

what kind of a move is it to connect Warren to 45? Time to ditch those consultants.
