Bernie Sanders on the Alabama anti-abortion bill being signed into law.

"The governor of Alabama just signed a near-total ban on abortion. What an utter disgrace. But we will not give up. Extremist politicians in every state have worked for decades to ban abortion. We will not let them win."

Bernie Sanders Defends Campaigning For Anti-Abortion Rights Democrat

The Omaha event wasn't that notable – just one of several red state visits on the DNC itinerary — until Thursday morning. That's when Ilyse Hogue, the president of abortion rights advocate NARAL Pro-Choice America, issued a statement blasting Sanders and Perez for spending time and resources campaigning alongside a Democrat who opposes abortion rights.

Not only is he anti-choice, but he also co-sponsored several bills restricting abortion when he was in the state legislature.

Here's an interesting Sanders quote that Justice Democrats should take note of before they start "targeting" Democrats in conservative states:

"The truth is that in some conservative states there will be candidates that are popular candidates who may not agree with me on every issue. I understand it. That's what politics is about"

Mello is a Roman Catholic and he said he was personally pro-life but he wouldn't vote to restrict abortions. Tim Kaine is pro-life.
Mello was not the one who signed this bill into law. Focus on the Governer who did.

Sanders dismisses major women’s group as ‘establishment’

Asked by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Tuesday evening about the fact that Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the Human Rights Campaign endorsed Clinton, Sanders replied, “We’re taking on not only Wall Street and the economic establishment, we’re taking on the political establishment. So I have friends and supporters in the Human Rights Fund [sic], in Planned Parenthood. But you know what, Hillary Clinton has been around there for a very, very long time and some of these groups are part of the establishment.”

....to not vote against such bills, another to actually push them in his state legislature.

As for the Biden vote in 1981, from the NY Times:

The amendment — which the National Abortion Rights Action League called “the most devastating attack yet on abortion rights” — cleared a key hurdle in the Senate Judiciary Committee in March 1982. Support came not only from Republicans but from a 39-year-old, second-term Democrat: Joseph R. Biden Jr.

“I’m probably a victim, or a product, however you want to phrase it, of my background,” Mr. Biden, a Roman Catholic, said at the time. The decision, he said, was “the single most difficult vote I’ve cast as a U.S. senator.”

The bill never made it to the full Senate, and when it came back up the following year, Mr. Biden voted against it.

Parental consent; ban partial birth; informed consent
While saying that he supports Roe and that he does not want to criminalize abortion, Kaine voiced support for three abortion restrictions.

He backs a parental consent law in Virginia which has a judicial bypass. He supports a ban on "partial birth abortions so long as there is an exception for the life and health of the mother". He also favors an "informed consent provision" in Virginia which requires abortion providers to "give women information about a whole series of things, the health consequences, et cetera, and information about adoption."

"Those, I have supported," said Kaine. "But I don't think ultimately we ought to be criminalizing abortion."

Biden entered the race.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/11/politics/beto-orourke-poll-of-the-week/index.html

First things first: The theme song of the week is the closing credits from the television show Full House.

Poll of the week: A new Monmouth University poll of likely 2020 New Hampshire Democratic primary voters has former vice president Joe Biden leading the pack with 36% and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in second place with 18%. Former Texas US representative Beto O'Rourke was tied for sixth place with 2%.

What's the point: When O'Rourke jumped into the race in mid-March, he had a boost of momentum. O'Rourke got a high number of Google searches (indicating interest in his candidacy). He raised about $6 million in his first 24 hours. Finally, he hit double-digits in a number of national polls, including CNN's and Quinnipiac University's.

Since that point, however, O'Rourke's support has declined considerably. He's running sixth in Google searches over the last 30 days behind Biden, Sanders, South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, California Sen. Kamala Harris and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. His fundraising has slowed, reports say. Indeed, his fundraising may not have been as strong as initially thought. Some of the money he raised on day one could only be used for the general election. His average daily fundraising haul was considerably less than Sanders in the March days following day one of his campaign.
You can see O'Rourke's struggles most clearly in the polls. In an average of national polls taken since Biden entered the race, O'Rourke has fallen to just below 5% support. That's the lowest he has been since at least December.

Isn't Bernie's whole schtick that we should stop focusing on issues like abortion, and instead focus on "working class" issues. Indeed, this is why he has supported anti-choice candidates. So, now Bernie is all-in on "identity politics."

For most Democrats, what Bernie has dismissed as identity politics, is just plain old civil rights. You really can't have economic justice without social justice.

Bernie has always supported a woman right to make her own choices with her body. Bernie supported a Democrat, a Catholic pro-life Democrat in a general election who had already won the mayoral primary. I guess you would rather the Republican won?
