Eric Swalwell: Ending gun violence would be 'top priority' if elected president
The California congressman made campaign visits to Burlington and Fairfield Monday.
As a congressman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, gun violence now is a central campaign issue for Eric Swalwell.
Swalwell was elected in 2012 to represent Californias East Bay about a month after 20 children and six adults were murdered at the school in Newtown, Connecticut. Following his meet-and-greet Monday afternoon in Burlington, Swalwell hosted an event in Fairfield with Cameron Kasky, a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
My top priority as president first 100 days will be to believe enough is enough and that we can end gun violence in America, said Swalwell, 38, one of 23 Democratic candidates running to unseat Republican President Donald Trump.
Swalwell told the crowd of 25 people gathered at the IBEW Hall about his father who enjoys pheasant hunting, brothers who shoot for recreation and about himself, who doesnt shy away from the shooting range.
